Seems like a slow day...

This forum has been a wealth of information for me. Thanks. I just wanted to get a little feedback from you guys who have had experience buying new cars. This is the first new car purchase I will have ever made, and really ever considered. (I have had 30 plus cars)

I would like a silver one, and the wife wants heated seats and moonroof. Black is looks great but this car will not be inside and I hate to destroy it. Even with religeous use of the car cover it is hard to keep it nice.

If I order a silver one with the seats and a moonroof, I guess you pay full sticker? 36,000 or whatever? Or do I wait and hope they build one like I want and then hope I can bargain it down? I see someone here just got a blue one for 29,500..How does that work? Extended warranty is a couple grand on top of that?

My local dealer here has now marked the black ones down to 29,500. I guess that is an "ask" but I don't how much room is left. I would get a moonroof and autostart put in to placate the wife and get an extended warranty for myself. Just suck it up and keep the black covered and parked waaayy out in parking lots to avoid door dings.

The dealer on Ebay in Del Rey, FL is selling them at 27,500. That Is the selling price according to him and he has a few left. Heck, I am going to be there next week. A long drive home (bad for break-in I hear)and no extras and no followup dealer service I would imagine..Is the couple extra grand to buy it local worth the security? Or doesn't it matter because a dealer is a dealer. (I move every year or so anyhow)

If it is really going to be a 6-9,000 savings ...well that is signifigant. Or will it be the same thing in 6 mos and I will get the exact car I want?

Or should I just do like I have been doing for 20 years...say the hell with all of this dealer crap and buy Logans cuz his is set up right...(have to put in a moonroof/autostart and put the high ratio rear back in because I have all highway driving). That car is set up properly and I guess would have the same warrantys as the others, as I move too much to really establish a "local dealer" ...Is a car purchased from an individual still eligable for a FoMoCo extended warranty?

Holy questions batman.... :)

My advice is this. If you really want a Silver one, wait for it next May. This car isn't a casual purchase so you should really get exactly what you want.

The only cavaet to that is that dealers are indeed desperate to get rid of their inventory right now. They may very well be next May too, but who knows.

In my mind, a dealer is a dealer is a dealer. Doesn't matter where you buy it, your local Mercury or Ford dealership will happily service it for you. I can say you won't see the price fall much below $27500, at that price the dealer is already losing over $3000 on the car. They mitigate that loss with the factory rebate of $2k bringing the loss to $1000.

For the money you save, you can install a nice aftermarket sunroof.

Any car that has a factory warranty remaining can have Ford's ESP warranty purchased for it. That being said, somebody just clicked buy it now on Ebay for my car a few hours ago.

I second Logan's motion to wait for the Silver. I work in Dearborn, and like Lincoln Mercury Lover, have a Ford contact or three. I've seen the Silver around town, and it is drop-dead gorgeous. I think they may be clearcoating with a tint, if you've ever seen "white gold", that's the look as opposed to "sterling silver". Rumor has it the silver will be on the auto show circuit this winter, if you can wait, check it out at a show.

Me, I couldn't wait, so I'm getting basic black (should be able to pick it up next week).

Well. I know it's a personal thing but this car live's to be BLACK! I bought mine just 3 weeks ago and I got out the door at $29000.00 and I'm happy as hell! if you can get in at $27500.00 rip there arm off taking the keys. One thing is for sure, If new options and colors is all it takes to make sales take off, and hope it does there will be little "haggeling" to do. Had LM put this car out 18 months ago we all would have paid "above sticker" The car is worth having, I don't what happens in the future. If they build the drop top I'll buy one of those too!! and I'll pay the price!

>>> the car lives to be BLACK
Undeniably! It’s the color you hate to love…cause you know how much work it is to keep it looking great. I was holding out for the new colors and the light interior with the heated seats. But every time I drove by my local dealer, the same 6 Bad Black Marauders sat there waiting for new homes. I Finally broke down last Saturday and made my best deal. Invoice minus $3500 cash back!! Couldn’t be happier!
Logan – Great site. Glad to be a part of this community.

As usual, some thoughts from a devil's advocate. IMHO...

Dealers are anxious to move in-house stock first, those puppies are costing them money minute by minute. It's my understanding that a dealer has 90 days of free credit with LM to sell the car. After those 90 days, the dealer has to pay up, and pay interest to a local credit source themselves. So, the longer a particular car has been on the a dealer's lot, the more the dealer wants to move it, and that's good for you.

For that reason, I would not expect a dealer to want to order any more MMs for stock until the last of his first order has cleared showroom doors. So, some dealers may ba able to offer color and options, others not. Remember though, that as you change the "want" balance here, you risk having that balance work against you.

My dealer says his service department likes "visitors" these days, if you buy elsewhere but favor the dealer down the street, they earn some kind of "brownie points" with LM, and might like having you in.

Buy where you want, and visit the service department of your choice. Build some rapport with the SM if you can, only you will benefit. Look for a service department that's mod friendly, that may be helpful down the road. Don't be shy with a tip.

Tips help, a "double saw" to my SM got me new tires on my Mountaineer 4 months before a neighbor across the street got his call. Don't underestimate grease.

Finally, a nice, steady, smooth road trip is probably the best way to break in your new MM, IMHO. I wish I had had an opportunity to buy like this, and if I ever buy another new car, I'll be looking out of state again.

I think some of you are the luckiest owners in the world. I bought my MM some time ago, paid sticker on a demo, got only 6.5 financing, with an extended warranty. I'm not going to add it up here, but I'm greatly disappointed with the financial changes ownership has shown me.

Nonetheless, she's worth every penny.

SergntMac, no need for disapiontment, many are buying at far better deals than I got and good for them, For myself I regret nothing and the fact is I would have paid sticker for this car if need be and thats the bottom line.

This car makes me smile so hard it HURTS and I haven't felt like this about a car since my Boss 302 or hemi coronet.

I'm off tomorrow to pick mine up.... the quote I got was $31,784 (x-plan) for the base car with the cd changer before all rebates. They said $3500 in rebates which means a final price of $28,284 which isnt bad, I think... now all I ahve to do is convince them to include the spoiler at that price and we're all set...
