View Full Version : Las Vegas Marauder Meet-Up 2015

Hello fellow West Coasters,
I was going to wait for the call to action from the owner with regard to planning and submitting proposals for Marauderville 13 but based on the discussion in this thread:
http://mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=95622
I wanted to get the word out sooner than later. as you can see from my dialogue, I think Las Vegas would be an awesome destination for MV13. Hotel accommodations, sights, events, speedway, etc ... all factors that need to be considered when submitting a proposal are all there in Vegas.
I want to make this work, but as I am currently in Washington State, my reach is limited. We live in a technologically advance society, so that shouldn't limit me too much. We have internet, smart phones, skype, Google Talk, etc. I am willing and able to make this happen and wanted to get the feeler out sooner rather than later.
Even if MV13 is not in Vegas, I still would like to get traction on setting a meet up in Vegas. If we can plan a date to work with in 2015, I think it's entirely doable to finally get a group together. I am going to need help with some logistics/planning but if anyone is interested, drop me a PM.
Ideas? Comments? Concerns? Suggestions? Let's use this thread as a jumping off platform.

Once again, I'm here to assist.
I'm in Arizona. It would be cool to see more than one or two marauders in one place. I took mine to fabulous ford last year. I was one of three marauders there. What's that all about. Lol

I believe the largest concentration of Marauders is on the east coast, hence a better chance of more attending meets or you seeing one.

Going to the Dam is a good activity, however, from the last time we went, I would advise that the trip be done really early in the morning. The later it gets, the more crowed the parking is, and last time we were all over the place trying to find a place to park. The Red Rock Loop might be a good place as well, or a trip to the Mount Charleston Lodge.

I want to set the record for longest distance traveled to attend a Maraudervile, it would be 3400 miles for me to get there as I am 12 hours north of Boston in Canada.

It is in driving range for me. Without stating the obvious that there are a lot of things to do in LV. For example, Shelby American has tours of their shop and museum. When I went a few years ago, it was free. Plus there are lots of hilly roads that would be fun and free. Lastly, they have races on the dragstrip at LVMS that aren't free, but aren't very expensive.
If you are really optimistic and think you can get a lot of attendees, you could probably rent the road course at LVMS for a day. I know that the TEAM SHELBY club has done this. But that would require big bucks.

Great Idea , Back in my Ski Days ,your Major clubs had Eastern Regionals and Western Regionals every year 'The Crew from DMV tried to do both' :burnout:The Western Regionals were the best- [Plus west coast snow was the most fun, Powder vs snow and Ice] and the People were friendlier and more down to earth. Whistler/ in Canada - Alta, Sno bird, Deer Valley , Vail , Copper mountain ,Arapaho Basin, Steamboat, to name a few west coast spots.

Whatever it takes. Lets figure it out.
While proposing a MV in vegas, I think that we should plan to have this meet go down regardless of having MV there or not so that we can get and hold allot of support for this.

10-28-2014, 08:01 PM
If anyone else, (and we know there is), has organized an event, let me know the basic steps, and I will follow those recommendations here in Vegas. I will contact some Hotels and ask about special room rates, ask about special parking. Once a month there is a Cruise Night, it would be cool to show up with a bunch of Marauders. The more participants, the better our chances with the Hotels, however all that aside, any Member, or Members that would want to come to Vegas, would be welcomed by me.

Hey 03blackvegas,
I'll send you a PM. there should be an announcement from the owners soon that will include everything needed to organize a Marauderville. You can search previous years' for info. But this is a good blueprint/template to with.
I have not organized a large regional meet like Louisville or Marauderville, but I have organized smaller meets in the CAM area (Captain Dan's meet where we've had as large as 20 Marauders), and I have helped co-organize the Autumn Brewery Tour last year.
I have great relationships with the folks who helped plan and organize MV5 in DC as well as Carlisle and Louisville. We have tremendous resources available to make this a success. Like I said, I will do whatever I can to help.
Glad to see a lot of support already! This is terrific

Also from the responses in the other Vegas thread (see the link in post #1) there is a ton of stuff to see & do in and around Vegas
So further to my point and Logizyme's post above, even if this isn't a Marauderville, we have the beginnings of a west coast regional annual meet here. After so many years of the regional Louisville meet, a lot of the events have become redundant and/or stagnant (this doesn't make Louisville any less fun and Louisville is more about hanging out and having a good time but I digress...). Point is we can make Vegas a fun exciting event year after year and not have the same itinerary twice. It's actually quite exhilarating
I'm there. Just say when...

Here's a list of criteria and responsibilities that were used for MV12 >>>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=89784
The planning team generally divides up the responsibilities to distribute the workload (e.g. hotel, check-in/registration, nametags, goodie bags, raffle prizes, T-Shirts, trophies, banquet, and daily itineraries/venues/events). This is probably as close to a set of "procedures" that you will see, since it tends to vary by event and how complex it becomes.
Best to have a conversation with someone who has orchestrated one of the major events.

Get the local Chamber of Commerce involved. When our group did MV9 the local Chamber guy did a lot of the local legwork for us as we did not live in Harrisburg. They can get hotels bidding for your business and can help orchestrate many of the activities as they have relationships with the area businesses.

SEMA is not a general public event, at least it didn't used to be. You need to be in the auto biz, although they used to have a pretty liberal attitude when it came to that.

Wait a minute, hold on now guy's, I think we might be getting a little off track here, a Marauder event in Las Vegas, means just that, a MARAUDER event, not Marauder/ Mustang event. If we can't stand alone and make an event work then so be it, but I'd rather have 2 Marauder people parked next to each other in a parking lot enjoying each others cars, then 2 Marauders surrounded by 100 Mustangs. Let's keep our focus, I own a Marauder, not a Mustang.

No you're right. I absolutely agree. Should be a Marauder only itinerary.
Reason I bring up a mustang or Ford show is for a show event only. This would only be one part the itinerary. Looking at past Marauderville and other Marauder event schedules, there has been a car show on the docket. Not a requirement but something to make the event a bigger draw

Any chance of us nailing down some dates soon, I need to start planning and getting time off work. Lets make this happen:beer:
I usually stay at the Embassy Suites when I am in Vegas, but parking at both locations is hit or miss and like most of Vegas the surrounding area is not the best. Where ever we end up staying I would prefer to not be on the strip; it would be a mess trying to get a group of Marauder moving up and down the strip.
Do any local members have suggestions for hotels? Maybe over by the Town Square? Homewood Suites is always a home run....Good food and shopping close, Shelby factory around the corner, etc.

We should certainly set a date before the begining of the year. Everyone will start doing vacation requests and we should get the time squared away prior to.
I'm going to nominate the weekend of August 1st. So 07/31/15 - 08/03/15.
Early August is far from any major holidays where people may have other things planned. Its not in the dead middle of summer where we - and our paint(for all the black Marauders) will be baking in the sun. Its later in the year rather than earlier so we will have additional time to plan the event.
I think weekends will certainly be best, as that means I would only need 2-3 days off from work for a 4-5 day event and I'm sure many would be in the same position. I don't think I would be wanting to take a weeks vacation for a meetup.
Anybody going to play some poker tournaments with me?

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions! This thread just got a lot of traction recently and apologies for being MIA. This is always a hectic time of year, but I do agree that we need to get a date set soon. I have not heard anything about MV13 or any call to action on that. My thinking was to nominate Vegas as a potential MV13 locale, but this is looking like it's own standalone regional meet up.

Great end of summer weatherhttp://www.4smileys.com/smileys/seasons-smileys/sun.gif (http://www.4smileys.com) and nice time of year for a road trip. http://www.4smileys.com/smileys/vehicle-smileys/smileycar64.gif (http://www.4smileys.com) what do you think? http://www.4smileys.com/smileys/thinking-smileys/think_smiley_23.gif (http://www.4smileys.com)
Yes, this is what I was thinking as well. Late September is usually when the Marauderville event takes place. I was thinking that we could plan around the same weekend as MV but in Vegas. Kind of like a Joint-MV (coast to coast!). But there has been nothing posted about MV so I think we should plan this independently of MV planning.
Late September is ideal because it's not too incredibly hot, the weather in most locations is still ideal so folks traveling across the Rockies or from points north won't incur inclement weather.
Plus it's 9 months out which will afford plenty of time to plan and make adjustments as necessary. A date needs to be set first. You can't please everyone.

September would probably be better for planning and the weather conditions should still be very nice. The 23-27th would work the best for myself. Maybe a poll could help this get sorted out quicker?

Mark, no info has been posted about submitting nominations. Usually by this time planning is well underway for several cities.
I suggest we plan this as a standalone event and if nominations come out for Marauderville, then we push to make it happen.
I like the idea about the poll and I'll get on that tomorrow. Thanks everyone!

Lets keep the discussion going.
So for events we certainly want a track day, preferably with both road coarse and drag strip (I'm partial to road coarse). We want a grand ol' place to take some kickass pictures. Any other on-theme Marauder based events? What about off topic events - shows, gambling, sight seeing? Lets suggest things now so we can get them planned faster and with better detail.

The Shelby factory is a ok event, the new facility is pretty small but its worth a visit if you have never seen it before. They also have the exotic car driving events out at the raceway if anyone is interested as well....just a few thoughts.

It sounds like there are a lot of good ideas being put forth, if I can add something to the discussion how about incorporating some other events into what is being planned??
I did some looking around on the interwebs and found two events that look interesting;
"Cars and Coffee™ Las Vegas is a weekly Saturday morning gathering of auto enthusiasts from 8:00am - 11:00am where hundreds of proud drivers from the Las Vegas area and beyond will congregate to kick tires and have a cup of coffee. There will be something for everyone to enjoy; classics, exotics, concepts, hotrods, motorcycles and motor-sport."
http://lasvegas.carsandcoffee.info/
Also in nearby Henderson there is Super Run 2015, although the 2015 info is not up on their site http://www.superrun.com/ it is held the last weekend in September.
I think that it would be awesome to see a convoy of Marauders making the 20 mile drive from Las Vegas to Henderson.
Any other ideas??

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread. Life is what happens when you start making plans. Thank you for keeping this thread alive and glad to see so much interest in making a Las Vegas meet occur.
As of now (January 6, 2014), there has been no post or mention of Marauderville 13. So at this point, a Las Vegas meet would be a stand-alone regional meet. Like I've said before, regardless if it's an MV location or not, I still would like to make this meet happen.
We have tentative dates of Sept 23-27th. Re-reading this thread it looks like I only have one person post who actually lives in Vegas (03blackvegas). I know there are other folks on this site who live there. Making this event happen is going to put a huge onus on these folks.
Please take a look below. I copied this from the MV12 itinerary. This gives you an idea of what is required for planning and execution. This should be used a guideline.
Here are the criteria and timeframe for proposals.
Criteria for Marauderville XII
Lodging
Hotel must be affordable. Someone MUST make an on-site visit to determine available facilities.
Amenities: King and Two Queen rooms; High Speed Internet (preferably at no extra charge); dining room, banquet facility, bar all on-site or within close proximity; pool preferred.
The hotel must be able to offer a block of no less than 50 rooms and have ample parking. Security is a high priority.
Itinerary
¼ or 1/8 mile drag strip, Road course or oval track within a reasonable distance and the cost of use. Test and Tune is an affordable option. Preferred event but not required.
Things to see and do: plant/factory tours, museums, breweries, wineries, local culture, Cruises, anything automotive and/or transportation related.
Car Show with awards
Maraudervilles have traditionally been a Thursday through Sunday event.
Early Fall would be ideal, although other times will be considered depending on circumstances such as events we can piggyback on.
Consider the distances needed to travel in between itinerary locations as well as traffic and turns.
Down time and time to socialize are important so there's no need to fill every minute of the day.
Responsibilities of Planning Team
Communiciation and follow-through are the most important tasks for the Team. MM.Net will provide a closed forum for the Planning Team so all communications and tracking are in once place.
Site visits to potential hotels and all proposed venues.
Contact and pricing for awards and t-shirts. If you have no one local, we can provide info from prior vendors that served us well.
Contact Supporting Vendors and local area businesses and Chamber of Commerce for support of MV12.
Please create and submit a Budget include projected costs for any itinerary options such as admissions, fees, rentals, meals, catering, insurance, etc. It is OK to suggest "meal on your own."
Use 100 people as a guideline for costs.
The most important part of planning and execution is a dedicated group of people - doesn't need to be many - that can follow through with all aspects of the event.

BTW this event will not happen just by posts on a forum. I'm going to need the blessing and buy in from the folks who live in Vegas. The onus will be on them to ensure routes are scheduled, hotels are safe (including parking) and accommodations are secure.
I think there is genuine interest in making this event happen, considering this thread is still getting traction almost 3 months after posting it. So I think we have the potential to make this a truly West Coast regional event.
I PM'd 03BlackVegas with some thoughts and ideas, but if you live in Vegas and want to help contribute to this please drop me a line. I'm trying to corral interested folks to meet up at a singular location and then I can dial in via free teleconference call or something. I am in Seattle, WA but in this day and age we don't have to be restricted by geographic limitations.
IF you are in another state and want to help out and join the planning committee, drop me a PM or send me an email: mebots@gmail.com

I don't want to speak for everyone, but I'm cool with it. If it means extra headcount to fill reservations and accommodations, why not? Approximately how many people/panthers are you talking about?

If anyone else, (and we know there is), has organized an event, let me know the basic steps, and I will follow those recommendations here in Vegas. I will contact some Hotels and ask about special room rates, ask about special parking. Once a month there is a Cruise Night, it would be cool to show up with a bunch of Marauders. The more participants, the better our chances with the Hotels, however all that aside, any Member, or Members that would want to come to Vegas, would be welcomed by me.
I'd go old school 3 ring binder w 8 dividers:
Hotel
Contacts data etc
Restaurants
Activities
Mapquest (or not) A to B, B to C, etc... For motor pools
Rideshare "Fly in people & Marauder Volunteers"
Attendees list. Screen names vs real names list and cell -copies for all

it's a facebook group, we have 183 members. with maybe 50 of them being semi-active in meets. and 10-20 that try to meet up once a month.

my best guess is 20-30 would be interested (not sure how many would make the trip though) we've talked about a Vegas meet before. just hard to get everything set up.

It's great if somebody lives in LV and can do the planning, but in reality anyone can plan a convention almost anywhere simply by getting in touch with the local tourist boards or even contacting hotels. Larger hotels have event planners on staff. I'd start with the hotel and go from there. It can all be done long distance if needed. Gotta start somewhere...
