Hey, my gears went out in my 04 and my mechanic said it would be easier to just swap rearend. There was a member that said he'll sell me one 425 but he's 425 miles away. Junkyard sell them for 125. Could I use one off CrownVic/Grand Marq being that there plentiful?

Search under section parts for sale. All you need are gears.

Your mechanic must not have the knowledge or tools to do the job as it is not easier than a simple gear swap. Why replace broken stuff with used stuff? Makes no sense.

Mechanic probably doesn't know how to shim the gears properly. Take it to someone who does, and just make sure they clean out all the metal debri, and get all up in them guts......the rear ends guts, not your guts.

Im a 100% sure he can install gears, but im looking for the cheapest way to do for now.
Junkyard has rearends for 125 which I can pull and install myself vs towing car to his shop $70 buying gears $100+ labor could be 200-450 plus im not sure if anything else is damaged in differential (had loud popping noise when it broke

If you go the cheaper route, make sure you open up the rear and check everything.

Do the police interceptors have TracLoc like Marauder.... This whole limited slip tracloc stuff got me confusedTracLok is simply Ford's version of limited slip. GM calls theirs "posi" (positraction).
Look for the metal tag on the diff cover...it'll have numbers like 3 27 which would be a 3.27 open or 3L27 which would be a 3.27 with limited slip.
Good luck finding one. 3.55s were only offered in the CVPI in 2000...most Police Interceptors have a 3.27 open and no civilian CVs or GMs had 3.55 at all.
