Picked this up locally today.

ProCharger F1-A self contained
Renegade bracket
Twin big reds

5 years old, total of five miles between 10 passes and trailer loading. It came off a totaled 96 mustang 9 sec toy.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/10/26/9usasuse.jpg

Just a quick mock up and it fit better than expected. I will obviously need to reroute some stuffs, ditch the radiator for a smaller but beefier on, and swap the balancer to an ATI to accept the cog lower pulley.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/10/26/arevu8e5.jpg

Actually kicking around the idea of going Sullivan intake, carb and maybe even an MMR distributor and go old school. May just keep it simple? Time will tell, but addressing fuel is a no brainer. Don't look for any quick updates as I'm not in a hurry, working odd schedules, and need to pick a direction and start saving... Not looking to break records by no means, probably won't even race it LOL. Just wanting something new and different from anyone else. 😊

What kind of boost and power are you looking for? E85?

justbob
10-26-2014, 11:56 AM
It's currently pulley'ed for 28 on a high compression engine and race fuel making 780 until spark issues arose. Not sure what that would make in my low compression block? Realistically I only want mid 600's. Not sure on E85 or anything fuel related at this point. I did pick up a Meth kit awhile back and never installed. Might just help out against detonation.

Have you gotten a texting plan yet Chief? 😜

If I were to run a Procharger gain, I'd install the AlkyInjection progressive meth kit before tuning and be done. I only had tiny intercoolers, but my IAT climbed ~60 degrees on a 10 second pull:eek:
Had to have too much timing tuned out for that. Hair dryers create some mo-fo heat, yup.
Going to be sweet, keep the build pics coming:P
Aside from the 2 big reds, is that a Tial on the long pipe? You'll love the cog belt too:beer:

Yes it's a Tial. I'm still trying to figure all this out for the newer routing. I've definitely been wrong before (actually twice :) ) but from initial measuring, the pipe from the blower to the intercooler actually appears to be a perfect fit. Only having to fab one pipe almost makes this too easy! We shall see when I yank the bumper next.

This afternoon I replaced the MM timing cover with the 96-98 cobra one, bolted down the blower, and did some test fitting using the untouched pipes from the mustang before wasting time on mounting the intercooler just to have to change it. They fit..

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/01/06e14487245b339dafe0152ed5e375 5d.jpg

I'm a little concerned on the ground clearance only at 4 3/4" and might just pie cut the top of the incoming pipe to the intercooler to raise the outlet end. I may just leave it, I will have to think it over.

There is no more provisions for a spring loaded tensioner with this set up. The serpentine and the cog are both sliders built into the renegade brackets. I do have to locate the missing sliding A/C idler pulley that sits directly under the grooved one pictured that wasn't supplied.

Well after a two month hiatus I continued on today with mock up for a couple hours. Not much accomplished, still just not feeling it. Since I will be getting a new radiator I thought it would be clever to ditch yet another item, the trans/P.S. Cooler and just run the P.S. Lines right to the trans ports on the new unit. Most everything still seems to be fitting at least. The condenser lines run right thru the middle of my blower piping so I'm hoping a 98-02 CV one will have better fitment. And also I need to shave some meat off the water pump pulley as its a single hair away from hitting the lower pulley.

I haven't decided a route quite yet from the inter cooler to the TB but it appears it will fit between the battery and the wheel well with some trimming and remain outside the frame rail for better flow. I also have a ProCharger inlet if I decide to go inside the frame to make it easier. All new piping will be welded and clamped just like the rest I am using and I will be welding the motor mounts solid.

Thanks to Jordan pushing me and cramping my style to get this done I put in a couple hours last night modifying the incoming pipe and mounting the intercooler. As much as I hate mounting it level instead of the proper sloped angle it was a must to ever gain more than 4 7-8" ground clearance.. I haven't measured now, but it is definitely tucked up and in.

To make him even happier I spent about four hours today wrapping up the piping all the way to the T.B. In the end I had several cut off pieces left over from the original set up on the '96 Cobra it came off of. No pipe purchased = WINNING.

I'll be mounting the battery on the drivers side with the Alky pump mounted where the compressor used to be and the compressor will disappear into trunk where I feel it belongs anyhow as these cars only have rear bags.

Just an FYI on pump mounting per Alky control : Nozzle MUST be highest point of system.if not siphoning can occur.

Pump is lowest point of system. this way its always gravity fed.

Tank is mid-point of system

Pump mounting: mount pump with its line connections facing down.

This is from the Alky control manual which is quite detailed , I'm in the process of installing my meth kit also , maybe Julio can fax a copy of the manual if your interested in having it.

I don't know your meth pumps history, but he HIGHLY suggested I refresh mine after it sat all winter. Said it will not pump to max capacity or consistently without fresh seals etc. Tuning a used pump, then rebuilding it, requires a retune - he said.

Tonight I removed all the brackets off the A/C condenser, tweaked the lines down, and fabbed up new brackets to mount it to the frame and core support an inch forward than stock. Never understood why the factory had not only these two things but the trans/P.S. cooler all bundled into one gigantic cluster ****? This will be soooo much easier to service when I'm done with it.

I actually got the radiator to fit with the bottom kicked out towards the engine a couple inches. Probably still get a new aluminum one though as I don't intend to use the fill tank plus it would look a lot cleaner.

That time of the month? [emoji4]

Working on it has been somewhere between slow and nonexistent between working out of the area and mysteriously loosing my boots the second I return.. Every time.

While mounting the very last screw I nicked one of the condenser tubes in the old road battered stocker.. Good time to see if I can mod a 98-02 one to fit! Yup, it fit and the lines now clear the blower outlet. One less hurdle.

Just their word on the upgraded 2 row vs. a 4 tube copper brass. The claim 50% more cooling. I'm quite sure even the single row would out perform an OEM.

IIRC I have 14 1/2" of vertical space before infringing on the blower inlet.

So A) I'll be kicking the bottom out slightly. B) lower the crossmember some (if I even keep it) C) If space allows, block the very bottom of the inlet.

Trying my best to only have air pass thru the bug catching condenser, and not the radiator as well. I'm not really sold on any elbows to run a typical filter. I think I would rather sacrifice some power with just a mushroom type filter as I should have plenty of unwanted power on tap anyways. I'm trying to keep all supporting items good to go beyond my goal. I would be plenty happy with 650 on the street as I don't want a race car, but one that is capable with stickies, meth, and the bird catcher inlet.

So wether a single or double row will be determined on available space, but my rough measuring is saying double is good to go.

Apparently a "supercharger installation" is all about positioning and fabrication of coolers, tubing and mounting. The engine end is pretty well defined. The stock engine is getting close enough to old age to justify it soon. One of these days . . .

Good explanation. Yep, you simply remove anything obstructing the blower, bracket, and intercooler, then start slowly piecing the car back together.

If you want the simplest four hour install and some added power, simply go non intercooler P-1 and literally mod nothing.

Good explanation. Yep, you simply remove anything obstructing the blower, bracket, and intercooler, then start slowly piecing the car back together.

I am at this stage. Intercooler is installed. Now I am trying to fit the piping.

Ive done one of those F1A prochargers with Cog set up, there was a hole lot of fabrication needed.......

If you want the simplest four hour install and some added power, simply go non intercooler P-1 and literally mod nothing.

Thanks for help Roger. As you personally know, any and all ideas are always a good thing.. I won't lie, this COG set up is starting to just piss me off with all the room it requires. I just wanted something radically different and I'm sure I'll love it soon enough, but if I had to start over I wouldn't bother. The whole reason I bought this car was to be different, so why stop there? [emoji4]

Last year I had a 8 rib pulley with that s/c bracket. We ran the whole season with the same belt with no problems. This year we will run the 8 rib with a F1A-94.

Tomorrow, upper and lower manifolds, valve covers, rails, rest of the piping, weld up the engine mounts, and whatever else goes good.

Starting to look like something!
http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/18/aa0389999641fc9bfbf1848b6c9b38 5a.jpg

I had to switch up the Radiator and shroud kit thanks to certain vendors complicating every aspect about verifying credit cards... Never been so damn hard to give people my money! Summit hooked me up as usual on these. Same radiator (different name) MUCH better fan kit blowing 4,000 CFM. I'm a little concerned on the amp draw.

I still have an idler bearing grinding somewhere first to look into, the constant running radiator fan, and then I want to rework the clutch pedal to accept a Tick Performance 98-02 F body master cylinder as these Ford units SUCK.

But I need to put money away to replace the slipping clutch with a McLeod RXT, have the trans beefed, replace the factory Ford oh so loose shifter, add four V clamps so I can remove this DUMB design Stainless Works exhaust to do the clutch, maybe an H pipe, two new enclosed Big Red's, two Moroso catch cans, an ATI Super Pulley, and finally a cage.

So as GREAT as she is holding up, this build will not live up to my expectations for any stretch of time and some time, patience, and money will be needed to put a done stamp on this old car. Too bad work slowed down for whatever reason. [emoji20]

Thanks!

We kept it under 5,700 and was flirting with 20.

This was also letting it all bleed right out of the Tial. For 110 I replace the Tial spring with a solid pipe to keep it shut. It's just there to help bleed off boost for the street. No vacuum to it, just boost pressure to open.

Swapped out the factory Ford clutch master for a Tick Performance one. I had to reconfigure the mounting points, slight modification to the pedal, and decided to tap the brake master and ditch the remote Wilwood one.

Tucked up about a 1/2" under the brake master.
