Guys, would I lose my steering wheel controls if I were to put in a new cd player?

I'd like to get a sony. Also, would I lose the functionality of the 6 disc cd changer?

The car I'm looking at currenty doesn't have a working fm radio, only the cd changer, and am radio work on it.

Yes you would definitely lose the changer and unless you put it an interface for the stereo controls, you will lose those also.

Are there any units that keep the controls on the steering wheel or should I just replace the unit with another factory one?

There are aftermarket radios that you just buy an additional module that plugs in to allow you to use the steering wheel button. No aftermarket radio will work without the additional module. Unless your looking to upgrade your entire sound system, id replace with a factory unit, its not too shabby.

Buy an audiophile unit from a escape or mariner..I think there a couple for sale here..factory look, better sound than marauder radio and has 6 disc indash and steering wheel controls work...trunk cd player does not work with it..but you have 6 disc indash so no big deal

OEM look:
As others said... if yu want the factory look go with an Audiophile unit. Plug-n-play but you do lose the 6-CD changer in the trunk, but there is a 6-CD changer in the unit.

Aftermarket:
Aftermarket headunits sound better, give you more control over the sound, GPS if desired, have more options for playing audio and video (CD, DVD, iPod, AUX, USB key and SD card). Minimal work to install. To keep the steering wheel controls you'll need an interface module which is really easy to install and setup. Most aftermarket units will have subwoofer controls and backup camera hookup. I've installed a few and it's easy to do.

Common for the FM to crap out.

I just put a Kenwood in mine, 7" monitors in the headrests, bigger sub and amp, four Sony 6x8 speakers also.. And I used the kenwood add on to keep my steering wheel controls.. No need for a changer, I didn't have one anyways.. Now I have GPS and movies in the back for the kiddos. BIG improvement.
