As some of you have heard, Debbie and I got run over by a pickup truck Sunday Afternoon. We were traveling I-71NB about twenty miles north of Kings Island, (near Cincinnatti, OH) When I see cars heading into the median, not knowing whats ahead, I was able to safely cut into the right lane, well about four seconds later, I see in the rearview mirror, smoke and a something green heading at me. Next we see is the underside of a older Dodge midsize Pickup. He sideswiped me, hitting the right rear tire and launching himself. We were able to get off the road into the grass. He was stopped on the side of the road about five car lengths ahead. We were all OK! His truck had a slightly bent front bumper and his rear bumper was bent back. Found out that there was an accident about a mile ahead, and traffic was coming to a standstill, while about 10-15 car lengths ahead of me, someone wasn't paying attention and never hit the brakes, slamming into the car in front of them. Trunk crumpled to the back seat, did its job, 5 people taken away, probably all whiplash.

Notice tire track on the hood, no mark on w/s. I beieve that the rear bumper caught the A pillar.

Damn Ken :( Glad that you and Debbie are OK.

Unless there is some added damage to the front of the car that is not shown in the pics, I would say that it should be repairable. Doors and rear quarter panel should be readily available. A pillar looks like only surface damage. Rear bumper cover looks fixable too. Hope for the best.

First, glad you are all okay.

I am far from an body expert, but the A pillar looks bad. The rest looks easily repairable.

Sorry to hear this , glad you and your wife are ok , the car can be repaired , but I think the cost of the damage will exceed the value of the car , which will cause the car to be totaled.

In glad to hear both of you are ok, the good news is the car did it's job and you walked away.

I don't think the damage is too bad as long as the roof didn't get tweaked from the A-pillar contact, it's hard to tell from the picture.

Wow Ken I' sorry to see this but am glad you guys are OK, albeit shaken up a bit I'm sure. Unless you have great insurance I bet the insurance people right this one off. There is a lot of labor with that rear quarter. Buy it back and use it as a source for extras.

Ken, it's a small world because I must have literally been behind you cause I was stuck in the traffic from that accident trying to go home. OHP and fire passed me trying to get to scene. I was in my MM too. I almost got crushed by people slamming on their brakes too. Glad to hear you are ok. I'm guessing I was less than a mile behind you or you was just behind me.

Insurance Company go by 80% of book value, anything over that it is a total loss:mad:

Might be some room to work with them. (I hope)

Glad you two are OK. Did you get checkout afterward?

Glad you are o.k., I agree they will try to total it. If Ohio is like Michigan, buy it back. Don't let them total the title, get her fixed. Easy fix right there!

This thread leads me into a topic I wanted to mention, but first about the wrecked Marauder. Very sorry to see the aftermath, glad your alright, it will be totaled, but everyone needs to think about buying back a wrecked car, first do you have the money to buy the car back, plus possibly going over the amount given to you by the Insurance company to fix a totaled car. Some people don't want to fix a wrecked car, worried about the quality of the repair, resale value, knowing in their mind that the car was badly wrecked, etc. This now leads me to my other topic, I have worked in Paint Shops, and Body Shops for 35 years, and I would not want a car the was "Repaired" in a body shop after it was heavily damaged. For a regular person maybe, but not for a real car enthusiast, the car is just never the same, Just my 2 cents. Now if anyone has any Paint, or Body questions, please feel free to ask, I don't know everything, but there is a lot of misinformation out there regarding the Paint and Body Industry, maybe I can help set some things straight. P.S., I currently work for Rick's Restorations, AKA, American Restoration.

The car is "totaled" in the eyes of the insurance company, dig your heels in, make them give you want it would take to buy a comparable replacement, start looking on Auto Trader, and print out the links and ads, by doing that I got 13k extra out of my wife's trailblazer last December.....

Glad you and the wife made it out unscathed.......

Insurance will definitely total it, but it is repairableI said this as soon as I saw it. The A pillar isn't damaged, the weatherstripping is. The door at the A pillar is what is damaged, notice the w/s is fine. I didn't know how well the rear quarter could be replaced. That is the main damage, The doors, front fender, and hood (has a slight crease and two dimples) would just need to be swapped out. After seeing what Zack did with his Blue, needing the frame staightened, I'm sure that this car could be repaired. I drove it about 20 miles to the outlet mall and got a heavy box from the first store I could get to, as it was 7:00 and she hadn't made it to the front door to lock it yet. I cut it to cover the window, ran across the street for some Gorilla tape, grabbed some grub and continued home, 140 miles highway and another 40 miles of two lane highway. About three hours later we were home. Car drives fine. BTW, it wasn't a violent hit, we felt it and it surprised Debbie more than anything, she leaned hard towards me and hit her leg on the console, smart for a few minutes, but that quickly passed. I pricked myself with a shard of glass while wiping off dash and seats, but only injuries if you want to call it that.

I Croftgate'd the car Thursday before I left, so it'd look good for the pics!

I'm guessing I was less than a mile behind you or you was just behind me.Our accident was about 5:30, and as soon as the first responder arrived, he pulled across the only open lane and shut down the highway for about a half hour or more till they got the injured out and transported. We got done with our paperwork about 6:35 and were free to leave. The two cars, both red, were still on the road the rear car in the passing lane, the front car was parked on the right berm. The original accident was gone except for the trooper on the side of the road probably doing paperwork and two people sitting in the grass.

My thought's on buying a "wrecked" car that you owned is you know the condition of said car:)

On the other hand if you knew that several items were in need of repair/replacement and your looking at major dollars then let it go and find another? Just my thought's in general.

Glad to hear you and Debbie are not injured and ok. Sorry about the car, it looks fixable, just probably won't be cheap and I don't think the insurance company will wanna do anything but total it. May be better to take the pay out and find another clean marauder, maybe even supercharged and take it from there.

Agree with pretty much everyone else; glad you're both okay but that car's definitely a total in the insurance world.

Darren offers valid advice - fight the insurance company as long as you can, because their first three offers for the car won't be insulting...they'll be comedic. Thennnnnn you'll get to insulting offers, and then maybe by the eighth offer you get something reasonable.

I got several thousand extra out of my Grand Marquis by playing hardball with LibMu.

Update: The estimate looks promising!

Hadn't heard from the other guys insurance co, called the sheriff department about the police report, had to send a S.A.S.E. Just faxed it and the estimate to them yesterday. They claimed that they hadn't heard from him, but she said his last name before I got it completely spelled.

Made a plexiglass window, and cleaned up the glass, leaving for the ABT in a couple hours. There was a chance of snow this morning, so the good one's streak of no snow/salt is continuing a little longer!
