Well...the inevitable happened!!:eek::shake:

Something cut loose under crazy acceleration (COLD IAT's) but never felt anything until I pulled in my driveway!!:bigcry: Rough idle......rich/popping exhaust!!

Hoped it was a coil but found #7 plug beat shut.....opened the gap and it runs better....maybe 7.5 cylinders.....still bad but at 256,172.95 miles I CANNOT complain!!:shake:

PM'd Marty to see if he can help me......our motors are NONEXISTENT.....one "Re-man" at a dealership in RI.....$4500.00 plus shipping....UGH!!

Suggestions?? Fix it or part it out or maybe sell it "as is"??

I'm "BUMMED" but hey......IT HAS BEEN A G-R-E-A-T RIDE!!:burnout:

BEST CAR I EVER OWNED PERIOD!!!! :bows:

Just wondering how many miles were on it when the blower was installed? I want to install one on mine but a little worried with almost 200k on the clock.

Have Marty build it up to handle the power the blower can put out.

Trying to envision how a plug can be beat shut unless the piston becomes detached from the rod or a valve head broke off. Then I would think that more clunking and clanking would be heard.

Since you didn't say if the block was ventilated, then just a head repair or replacment may be all that the motor needs.

Can you borescope #7 with the head on and see what's going on in that cylinder?

Fix the car, what else could you drive for the cost of a new motor? Of course you could buy a newer car, but it wouldn't be as fun as a Marauder.

You know that you will miss the Marauder if you go with any other car.

A REALLY GOOD RUN with an S/C'd car[emoji482]

Exactly my plan, but BEFORE current long block goes boom.
I say fix it - then decide if you don't want it anymore. Worth more alive then dead, parting out cars is a hassle. That would taint your great memories.

Sorry to hear Jack!

Two words. Ring land. Hopefully it ejected out the exhaust and will buy you some time. +1 on getting a camera in there. My Milwaukee cam was pretty cheap and fits with ease.

Obviously don't drive it and make it worse. You probably have a perfectly rebuildable engine that would be even better with a forged rotating assembly.

And I have to point out that you did agree to a post-mortem on your near-infinite life motor. You owe us pics of the timing chain guides, crank journals, bearings, piston skirts, cylinder walls and any other wear surfaces. :D

No, really, sorry to hear. But it was a good run. I don't know why you would even consider ditching the car, an engine rebuild is no big deal as long as you hire somebody competent. Ship it to Marty.

Pat....a chunk usually breaks off the edge of a piston and this small piece bangs around eventually finding the plug or sticking in an exhaust valve causing more damage!!:(

I looked in the plug hole and you can see marks where it banged around in there Bob!!:shake:

It runs fine with no noise from the engine except the exhaust sounding like little or no compression in that cylinder so I suspect a hole in the piston or valve damage?? Either way I'm not gonna run it except to load on a trailer when I decide what's gonna happen with it!!

Stay Tuned!!;)

My rule is when it has to get "fixed", as in it can't/shouldn't be driven, more than 2x a year time to buy something else.

So many of the new cars are phenomenal. In a couple of years the "previously owned" ones will be a heck of a buy.;)

BTW.....I have between 5,000 and 6,000 total hours on the motor and about 3,500 hours Supercharged!!:bows:

Not bad for a BIG OLE car with a 281 c.i. "peanut" motor!!;)

I did not anticipate what I said to be taken so literally.

Translation is I think you should fix the car. But its yours so do whatever the heck you want with it. IE- part it out, sell it, use it in a demolition derby, make it yard art, etc.

I will be more careful with my words next time! Geez!

Install a new plug and keep driving it.
A broken ring land can be ignored and driven around if the piece that broke off isn't 'too' big.

Zack......I opened the plug gap and started it......runs smooth with no mechanical noise from the engine but the exhaust ain't just right!!:shake:

An engine with internal damage and possible loose parts has the potential to cause more damage when run, and may make it impossible to re-use important parts like the cylinder head or engine block among others.

A leakdown test can give you some idea what happened, for example air hissing out the exhaust pipe and/or the crankcase. But it may be academic at this point.

You are mistaken.

SergntMac ran his Vortech car HARD for MONTHS back in 2004 with a broken ringland.

Others like Motorhead350 have run their cars with damaged ringlands.

The only damage that is done is immediately after the failure. I have yet to see damage bad enough to deem a cylinder head trash.

Such hubris. The plural of "anecdote" is not "data". There is no way to know with any certainty what will happen when internal engine parts come loose, so the cautious thing to do is stop running it.

No offense to either Motorhead or Zack, but using someone's Marauder that has been treated like dirt from day one as part of a reason to drive a fatal motor further into the ground is a bad reason at the very best. Let the op get his engine rebuilt now instead of when there is a hole in the block big enough to fit my hand into.

If you rather send your engine for a rebuild, this place looks pretty legit.
http://engineguy.com/ford-lincoln-mercury/4-6l-4vromeo-1/ford-longblock-engine-egl4603r4ma-450-core-deposit.html and is less than $4500...~$3000.

good price but availability says "back ordered." I'd say as long as you are staying blown might as well have it rebuilt with forged internals.

Drive it like you want, to hell with everyone else, their philosophies and judgement.

Step 1. Calm down, do not make a judgement when angry. Not with a car, not with anything.

Step 2. Take it to MO and fix your car.
