View Full Version : Draining the gas tank

So due to my medical issues (brain cancer) my Marauder has sat for two years. I left about 1/4 tank of fuel in it, but I don't imagine it will even start the car. I could fill the tank with fresh fuel, but I'd rather drain all the crappy fuel out that I can first.

Short of dropping the tank, any hints/tips? I have a new GT40 pump in there but I don't really want to open the Schrader valve on the fuel rail to dump 1/4 tank. Is there an anti siphon flap on our cars?

Any ideas will be much appreciated so I can have Martyo start remote tuning!

I've tried as several others to siphon the tank with no luck on getting the hose in. But I've heard of a couple that found a way? You could unclip the fuel filter and attach a short piece of fuel line to buckets or do what I would do and pump 10 gallons of race fuel in and start it..

You can program the pump to run full time in the software

I can't add anything to the question you asked. But congrats on defeating your cancer.

I agree, just put about 5-10 gallons of new fuel in there and idle it through or go drive it. Two year old fuel should still fire the engine. You're just making work for yourself to try to drain it.

Welcome back, Taemian. Glad to hear you're better...

Threadjack: Wasn't your car used in a movie? Do you have a link? I'd like to see it again.

No wonder ive never seen you around.... hope to see you on the road soon.

Anyway i consulted my car guru father and he said pretty much siphoning is the simplest way.

Couldn't you disconnect the fuel filter line and put the key to run??

I thought when you put it to run the pump primes the fuel lines with pressure for you to start the car, seems like it it never reaches that pressure it should keep running.......maybe :confused:

Well, I finally got the time to spend on the car a few days ago. Sprayed some HoneyLube and 5w30 into each cylinder, put in a new battery, put a breaker bar on the crank pulley to rotate everything, then put in 7 gallons of 94 octane.

Fired right up, but what a racket the belt made! Once engine had reached operating temperature, belt noise was barely there but I'm sure next time it'll be there again.

Just sat in the driver's seat idling for about 20 minutes reacquainting myself with my old friend. Thanks to those who replied!

Now on to remote tuning with Martyo, but first I have some issues with my wife's Land Rover LR3. If it's not one vehicle, it's the other!:violin:

Big boss Applesauce, helped me with this issue. Fill tank with premium quality gas, and add one (or two) Sea Foam gas additives, get out on highway and cruise 70 and burn it up. Then refill with quality premium gas and add a red line type gas additive and burn that tank without racing the engine too hard.

Should be good to go.

Congrats on fighting the big C. Bad gas is nothing compared to this.

We are with you.

PS if there was anY easy way to drain tank... This is the best answer.

Thanks for your post, I'll keep it in mind once the weather isn't drizzle or pouring rain like it is every day no. Should be about April when we finally see the sun out here again in Vancouver.:o

Not running it hard is no problem, the current tune knocks and has the fuel cut-off set to 5400 rpm. The big Ford dealership that tuned it f'd it up beyond belief. I'm looking forward to getting time to send the tune to Martyo, tuner extrordinaire:)

I bought a 58 Squarebird once that had been sitting in a 93 year old lady's garage for years on four flats.

Poured some fresh gas down the tank, used some starter fluid, hooked up a new battery, and she started, not right away, but pretty quick.

Drove it a bit, filled it up, and that was it.

How did you get a Ford dealer to tune it? Most likely they just reloaded the factory tune.
