On Marauders with an M112 Eaton or Trilogy;

Assuming your rebuilding the heads and there is no extra labor to swap cams do you think that swapping to 03/04 Cobra or 07-09 GT500 cams would be worth the cost of new sets ($200 for either set) over the OE NA cams?

Yes, no, which set, why, and what conditions would you use which sets?

IIRC at MV XII the engineer in charge of engines said the last thing he'd worry about in our engines is the cams until the very last thing. When I mentioned I was going to rebuild my engine he said there are so many more things you can do to the engine to get more out of it. The cams are worth it when you are trying to squeeze the last bit out of the engine. Of course others on here may have personal experiences that differ.

You already have 03-04 cobra cams. If you want some extra power it's much cheaper to spray meth, even more so nitrous. Power can be made with cams, but most of us do it for sound or bragging rights as 25 HP or so isn't even noticeable once you've already accomplished 450 or so. If your gonna do it just pick up a set of comp or crower and do it right. Don't forget to purchase springs and retainers as well. Of course why stop there? Continue the sickness in oversized Manley valves like I did for no real reason... LOL

Expensive downward spiral Bud.

Yo relax it was just a simple question. I'm well aware of how quickly these costs could ad up.

I did not realize that Cobra and Mach1/Marauder cams were the same.

Nevermind then.

I believe the 96-98 cobra intake cam is the one you might look into. I think it has a longer duration than our cams. I chose this route with my engine build. Keep doing your research and keep asking questions.

If you'll have the heads out, then definitely consider Cobra 96-98 cams. You only need the intake cams. You wont need new springs or retainers. If you degree them you'll gain in the range of 20 RWHP N/A and certainly more S/C. So the $/HP is pretty good. You'll also gain more torque.

If you're re-doing heads why not. More air goes in more HP comes out.

Marauder / 03-04 Cobra / Aviator / Mach I - All same heads FYI. 05 saw an improved cooling design, and 9 thread vs. 4 thread spark plugs, I put 05 Aviator heads directly onto my 03 Cobra FWIW.
