Hey guys, I was curious whether anyone else noticed a whining or humming noise when cruising on the highway that appears to be coming from the front of the car. It changes in pitch as you increase or decrease speed, and is most noticeable between 60-65mph. It only makes this noise when you are giving the car gas, as it goes away once you remove your foot from the gas pedal.

June....
Mine has a little gear whine....probably the trans in O/D??
Otherwise very quiet.....except for the exhaust note that by the way is much louder than when I first got the car!!
Did you get the "Ticking" fixed yet??
Put a S/C on and begin to really hear it whine!!!

June,
I also hear a very low grade whine/hum and can feel it in my right foot as well in the 60-65 mph range. However, to me it definitely seems to be coming from the rear end and generally only with light pressure to keep pace with the "slower" traffic. Normally, I run faster than this and it doesn't seem to be an issue above 65 mph. Mine's an '03 with about 8,200 miles.

Well, I had to grab a book from a library, so as an excuse I decided to go to the library on the other side of town. The library down the street from me had the book as well, but owning a Marauder seems to make you want to take the longest route possible. The humming or whining noise seems to be rpm dependant as it does it in 3rd gear as well. I tried running in both 3rd and 4th, and the humming seems to do it in both gears between 1800-2100rpms for me. This definately appears to be coming from the front of the car, not the rear. There is a seperate very faint light whine that does come from the rear occasionally, but that is a different noise. This humming or whining only does it when you have your foot on the gas, as lifting it will cause it to go away.

Mine did the exact same thing and the problem went away when I installed the 410's. The factory gears had improper backlash settings and new gears are quite as can be.

Hey, thanks for letting me know! I've been mulling gears and that's an even bigger incentive to do the gears first!

Naw- One of us is always on the look-out! Whoops!
I use duct tape to stop the whining. Works really well to keep the wife quiet.
The humming is another story, gotta use knock-out drops for that.
