Hello All,

My son is turning 18. He's taking his driving test soon and he wants to have
a third gen (1982 - 1992) Trans-Am or Camaro Z28 as his first car. :2thumbs:

We've been looking on ebay, craig's list, local ads (Westchester Area)
and a few of the really nice ones slipped away due to bad timing.

I'm looking for a daily driver in good condition.
I've seen cars torn apart, in the middle of a project,
and just really badly abused.
I shake my head when I see this stuff
and these people want good $$$ for this?

I am willing to pay if the car is in good enough shape
that I can trust it for my son.
I'm not going to pay if I have to rebuild the car
to the point it is trustworthy.
Point Blank...

So if anyone sees anything, please give me a shout.
I'll toss you a bone if the car surprises me !!!

Thanks...

I have seen a few solid cars at fair prices over at thirdgen.org. Some prices are crazy and some have crap cars, but I have seen some nice middle range cars that would be worthy. I have been window shopping for a "track" car rather than redoing my Aerocoupe, so I have been watching for a while.

You might have a long search. Every one of those I see has lead a very hard life, especially when they got to the 2nd or 3rd (4th &5th?) owners. I haven't seen anything even resembling stock or well cared for in years. That period probably wasn't GM's best as far as longevity and reliability either.

One owner 88 GTA 350, red/red, girl bought new, low miles, always garaged ~$10k
local to me and I remember when she bought it.

If he were my son I would get a larger car that may possible be safer, considering he's just starting to drive. My daughter drove a 78 Mercury Cougar for years and her classmates nicknamed it "The Boat"

My first ride was a 1968 Chevy Nova.
I worked on it for 3 months and got it road worthy.
Parked it in the street and it was stolen in less than a couple hours.

My second ride was a 1972 Blue Mustang Fastback.
Light in the rear and no traction at all...

After that I had a 1987 RED Mitsubishi Mirage.
What was I thinking ??? :help:

1995 Black Escort Wagon
1998 Black Contour Sport V6
2004 Black Mercury Marauder

It took a little while but I finally got here...

It's my son's turn. As much as I want to put him into a Volvo,
he wants a car he can learn to drive in, learn to break and learn to fix.
He also wants a car that doesn't connect to the world.

345HP87SSAC, Thanks for the tip for Thirdgen.org.
The site looks promising. I'll let you know what materializes.

Chief, I'd spend $10k on a RED GTA 350 for my wife, before I dropped it on my son.
Thanks for the mention! It's appreciated.
If he can come up with the $10k himself, I'll give you a holler !!
