Just like the subject line says. Need a pair of rear speakers for the new '04. Not looking to spend a ton, just an honest set that isn't blown.

Get a decent set from ebay or one of the online discounter so like sonicelectronix.
UPGRADE!!
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_i37_5x7-speakers.html
Try JL audio or Infinity.
50-90 bucks will get you a pair of greatly improved sounding speakers over our 10 year old OEM Crapola speakers.

You would be surprised how good these are:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/331385457027?lpid=82
I can get then even cheaper than shown in the listing but shipping them would kill the savings.
I use these speakers quite often with great results. I did my Bronco with these recently and it rocks.

They sound great and I use them a lot. I just did a set up in my Bronco and it rocks!
I can get them even cheaper than in this listing but I buy them locally at a car audio installer supply house.

6x9s aren't just a drop in though, requires a saw and a measuring tape...
5x7 and some 6x8 fit without modding.

The brand I recommended comes in all shapes and sizes. That is why installers use em too.

I am going with the cheaper (not the high dollar models) JL Audio 5 1/4" separates in the front and 6 1/2 Coaxials, JL Audio in the rear. A round speaker sounds better than an oval.
Also I discovered that the original equipment speakers actually sound good with a CD in the changer, but with the FM radio they are horrible. Much of that has to do with the lousy factory radio and the difference in quality between FM and CD audio. I can see a radio upgrade in my future.

speakers I would buy new. For some reason I did not think fronts were same size as rears. I do like extreme high quality at extreme low price :D not looking to cut on car just to install speakers. My hearing bout shot from diesels, turbos, super chargers, so most likely not as big a deal for me compared to most. Been thinking about new head unit with nav in my S B as long as steering wheel controls and 6 cd player will all still work. If I up grade I will install in my S B and put stock stuff into blackie. maybe LOL suggestions appreciated Gary, your speaker suggestion noted thanks

For what this car is, stock replacements would be fine. Zack, how about a freebie? :)

With any headunit upgrade whether it's the Escape unit or an aftermarket unit you will lose the ability to use the trunk CD changer.
The Escape unit has a 6 CD changer in the headunit and will work with the steering wheel controls. It's plug 'n' play.
Most aftermarket headunits will be able to play CD's / MP3's, use an SD or micro SD card, have an AUX jack, Ipod connection, Bluetooth or USB connections so your ability to access your music is almost limitless. You will need an interface to allow the headunit to interface with the steering wheel controls.
If you want more info, PM me.

I might still have my old ones. I'll look later

I have a set of pioneer 5x7 3-ways that you can have if you pay shipping. They are from the early 90s but they still work. They were originally in a 91 Cougar. PM me if you want them.

Would they be plug 'n' play in the rear? My understanding is that the rear speakers are larger. If so, and if Zack falls through, I may be interested. Thanks!

Ford factory size is 6x8 in the rear. The pioneers are 5x7/6x8. They are a drop in fit. There will be a few areas around the screw holes that will have a slight gap. It should be filled with dynamat or something similar for the "best" sound, or just ignore it. They will be better than factory even with the gap.
Just let me know.

5x7's and 6x8's have the same mounting holes.... the 6x8 has a little bit more cone area to help out with low end
Almost every panther car has the same size speakers in all four locations, 5X7/6X8

I got four 6x8's, the fronts were a direct replacement, the rears needs some sheet metal surgery to fit.
