So when I bought my MM, the guy I bought it from had 3.27s in the car. He had those installed after he found out there were 4.10 gears in the car when he bought it. He included the 4.10s when I bought the car from him.

Gettin ready to do gears and I need to know what kind of gears I have add far as manufacturer. Desperately tryin to avoid whine. Done some research, seems like.a possibility of them being Motive or Ford. Don't see any Ford ovals. Can anyone help verify? Pictures below.

The "MO" on the pinion would leave me to assume Motive.

Whine has to do with how well installed and the contact between pinion and ring gear. Not a driveway bolt-on for most

Unless the 4.10s were badly installed before and the PO ran them to the point that they were damaged, you should be fine. Brand doesn't matter.

Roger that. See reply to overlord below.

True, I've heard this many times. But I've also heard many people on Ford and Mustang forums talk about having their most trusted wrench install two different sets of gears, one Ford and one some other brand, and the results came out differently. Favoring the Ford gears in 95% of cases it seems. Too much whine was the problem. Sounds like inferior materials and craftsmanship. Hence why I'm lookin into what type they are.

If that's a big chunk of missing metal in the pinion I wouldn't put those back in, your asking for trouble.

No, just a little bit of dusty corrosion. Comes off with a lil elbow grease. They actually look to be in real good shape.
