Cruising quietly in to work this morning when I got pulled over by a member of the Queen's constabulary who must not have had anything better going on. He stopped me for------yes, tint on the driver's and passenger's windows. Illegal here. Now, I have 50% tint on the front and you can tell it's there, but geez, not by much. Every second car (especially ricers!) seems to have really dark tint, so I can't imagine that the cops are actually issuing many tickets for this.
So, I have to take it off and take The Beast in to have it verified. How easy is it to get this stuff off? Does it just peel off or do I need to use a hair dryer? What about residue on the windows? Plain ole Windex?
Any advice appreciated.
BTW, it's a $125 ticket here, but he just wrote me up to get it taken off, so it could have been worse.

Oops, never mind. Found a previous thread (funny, it didn't come up when I did the search before I posted).
This site seems to have the answers: http://www.tintdude.com/remove.html

I take you got a ticket from the RCMP?
I checked with my buddy who's on the force and he stated and I quote:
"The tint on the drivers front and passenger front window must be light enough that a pedestrian can make eye contact with you from 20 feet"
Sorry to hear about your ticket.
How are you enjoying your MM?
I've only seen 3 others since I got mine last fall.
You weren't the one I saw going over the Patullo bridge last week early in the A.m. ?

Seems to be a lot of this stuff going around these days. I myself as well as some others have been stopped in the past week.

The step by step on that web site seems okay. However, I found it much quicker and easier to use a hair dryer. I used a razor blade to cut the tint into workable sections about 4-6 inches wide and worked one section at a time. Once heated and you get a corner lifted, just keep the hair dryer moving along slowly, and it'll be off in no time. After, scrape any remaining adhesive, and clean with Windex or another good cleaner. It's not a difficult task to do.....

Just be careful not to cut into the glass when dividing and scraping...been there, done that:( :shake:

Nope, not me on the Patullo. I know that there's one in New West, and there were 2 03s for sale at Key West and 1 at Totem when I got mine, so I would guess that they are on the road by now.
Yeah--it was the RCMP freeway patrol.
Here's the BC law on tint--nothing to do with visibility--you simply cannot have any tint on the driver or passenger front side window:
British Columbia Tint Law
MVA Regs 7.05(8) No person shall drive or operate on a highway a motor vehicle which has affixed to or placed on the windshield or a window any material that reduces the light transmitted through the windshield or window unless the material is affixed to or placed on
(a) the windshield but not more than 75 mm below the top of the windshield
(b) a side window that is behind the driver, or
(c) the rear window if the motor vehicle is equipped with outside rear view mirrors on the left and right side of the motor vehicle.
And--this applies to out-of-province cars as well, so even if you are legal tint in some other province and state, they can still ticket you in BC.

I got stopped in VA for my tint last month. Of course I have 5%, which is illegal in all 50 states... :)
