Posi-traction rear wheel drive sucks in the snow! Is it anything that will help with traction in the snow besides good winter tires on the rear??

I ran snows on all fours and had no issues passing SUVs.. Before that I threw a tarp in the trunk and 350# of salt. I did it for at least five years and there isn't a single spec of rust.

Studded tires are great if allowed in your state.
Weight in the trunk will help some, that's about it I think?
If your sliding on ice with the brakes on slip it into neutral you would be amazed how much it helps.

Our cars are not the most desirable in snow. This is a small sacrifice we pay to own such a car. From winter one in 2004 I use Pirelli Scopion 255/70/16 rear & 215/65/16 up front. All four corners is the only way to go. I also have tire chains for exteme conditions. I will feel confident in any condition.

Mine saw snow once. Back in 2004. Never since. Get a DD that's not a Marauder, preferably with all wheel drive and BAM.....problem fixed.

^^ Learned this years ago as all my family and I had growing up was RWD. It does wonders.

non-posi-traction RWD sucks worse - your not going anywhere - at least with limited slip you have a chance of making it anywhere.
Since you are looking for options besides snow tires, chains will work well - but beware of wheel/fender damage for a set that does not fit just right or if any set decides to break or come loose.
Also load up the trunk. as much weight as you can. sandbags, bricks, whatever. More weight over the rear wheels will mean greater traction.

Maybe your clutch pack needs replaced in the differential. See if you can apply the brake
with some pressure and get both rear wheels to spin.

No issues here with driving in the snow. Been doing since 2002:)
Just slow down and keep your wits about you.

Down there in the DC area just a good set of snows or 300 t0 500 pounds of cat litter in the trunk. When I was stationed at Ft. Meade they would close the post down for 2 inches of snow.

You can use the kitty litter for traction if you get stuck!

A good set of snow tires and weight in the trunk is night and day compared to all seasons. I've been driving a '96 convertible Mustang GT and my Marauders this way for a long time. If its really bad I'll drive my '90 gmc 4x4 but it only gets 10 mpg so I don't drive that one much.
On ice, nothing is really good...

Use second gear off of the line and be gentle on the throttle for those extra slippery situations.

Keep a couple of cases in the back seat so you can pee your way out.

Practice? I've always found my Marauder pretty easy to drive in the snow, even with the extra power :dunno:

This tip (http://mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=62099) makes it a lot easier to slip it into neutral.
