The wear bars are becoming flush with the tread...
Third (and last) set of BFGs at 72K...

So, what is the latest and greatest for rear tires for our cars?
I'm happy with my newer Coopers up front, but would like to get the maximum width tire that safely fits on a stock rear rim.
Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated!

I think 275 would be the maximum you can safely use on a stock MM rim.

I would want all 4 tires to be from the same manufacturer. But that's just me.

Me too, but I want to go wider on the rear tires than stock.

Mebot ran 295/45R18s on the stock rim for a while, and I know some others have too. That's really the absolute MAX for an unwidened 8" rim.

This is correct.

I had 295/45/18 Hankook Ventus on stock rims. I really had no issues and even drove all the way from VA to Louisville, Ky as well as down south to the Outer Banks. No problems whatsoever. But I did have a lot of people who said it was a risk. I'm sure it is. I finally replaced the rears because I was getting the bald patch in the middle.

I switched to Nitto Motivo 255/55/18 in the rear to complement my Nitto NT850 235/50/18 in the front.

Like Tbone mentioned above, I like having all 4 tires be from the same manufacturer

Do you lose any height with this tire versus the stock size?

Less than 3/16 of an inch..about .177 shorter in diameter than 245-55-18. so about .090 top and bottom..never be able to see it
