Any of you guys with 15% or 18% OD dampeners have any issues?
About to get one of the IW units, curious which one I should get. Wondering if I should go 10, 15, or 18%?
These seem kinda rare. Thinking the bigger the crank, the bigger SC pulley I can run without belt slip issues.
I'm wondering if it might have other issues with the alternator, waterpump, or PS pump?
Also, seems like I have read that the 8 rib dampener can be used when the rest of the setup is still 6-rib until everything else can be swapped to 8-rib. Anyone run an 8 rib on the crank for awhile?

I'm running an 8 rib IW 10% ud damper with a 6 rib accessory belt a-ok for over a year. PD, not centri, but, I wouldn't run over 10% personally.

I have a 10% OD and I had to grind part of the timing cover. I actually cut through and had to perform a repair. I don't know how others get the bigger Balancers installed without more serious mods.
See attached picture.

Oh yeah, I had to grind mine too! Lol! Forgot about that fun little gotcha. That pissed me off! 😜

How did you not cut through? I was very careful and ended up with paper thin material.

Mine is a 10% UD IW damper. I didn't have to shave too much off. It definitely caused interference though!

I run an 18% O/D (8rib) balancer had to grind the timing tabs down (no biggie) the 18% allows me to run more boost (26psi) and run a bigger S/C pulley (3.0") its a great combo , and i stepped up from a 15% balancer , love it!

What other pulleys are you running?
Have any pics kind sir?
I'm confused on what all has to be clearanced???

You have to grind down the area on the left, as I showed in the first picture and sometimes the timing marks at 11 o'clock. In my opinion the timing marks are no problem. The other area requires more finesse IMHO.

By the way, what's your current setup and boost level? An 8-rib setup is fairly affordable if you do some research.

I just bought a 10% OD, I didn't realize they had bigger ones...DAM!

A couple of Thump racing double bearing idler pulleys , i had to mill down the lip on my Vortech water pump pulley its a very nice pulley and wider than the oem wp pulley as I'm running an 8rib setup.
Check my MADNESS thread for pics. as for the clearance issue it depends on which balancer you go with , an 18% will require grinding both the timing tabs , and the crank sensor hump , its a very simple process.

I had to mill about 1/4 inch off my thump tensioner and vortech bracket. Just need to re clock the tensioner which thump will do for free thank goodness haha.

Thanks for the pic!
I had an unfortunate run in with a sticky thermostat (our current guess) resulting in a blown HG, still praying I didn’t hurt the shortblock or warp heads... Must have gotten too hot before I noticed the gauge during morning rush hour. Noticed it running almost on the H as I was coming down the mountain, put her in neutral to coast down and turned on the heat but heater didn’t blow hot. Coasted off the first exit and when I put I back in gear to pull over to the gas station the radiator hoses blew off.
Most of my mechanic'n experience has been with 302s, inline 6s, and S/C 3.8 v6s. I have yet to have done much work on a 4.6 myself which is why the car is in the shop now. A mixture of laziness, hatred of cold weather, crappy heat in the garage, and a mustang project that would have to have been moved out in the yard drove me to just take it to the shop.
Shop is pulling the motor now :(
Figured I better upgrade what I can while things are coming out. Not sure the mechanic will want to mess much with figuring out which pulleys will work with timing cover, tensioners, and all for a 8-rib swap... Haven't got a feel yet for how interested he is in working with me on such things. Also might try and do a 98 intake cam swap while its out.
I read several threads about the 8 rib upgrades but I'm still a little confused, I have also called Innovators West and they claim that towards the end of the summer they should have some alternator, WP, PS, and idlers available for 4.6. So might decide to wait and look into those.
What I am mainly concerned with is the potential issues with other accessories by overdriving them too much with a %15 or %18... That and if the 8-rib will work with the rest being 6 rib for awhile.

Sorry to hear about the car troubles.
I think Motown can attest there are no major concerns with going with an 18% and RacerX can attest an 8-rib crank pulley with 6-rib accessory pulleys will work for a while.
I forget if you told us what your boost goals and on what blower.
Regarding the cams. Since you'll have the heads out, then why not? The Cobra cams and the adjusting gears are fairly inexpensive.
The 8-rib swap is also easy and inexpensive, especially if you are already upgrading your balancer to 8-ribs.

Yeah, I'm just hoping I can get out of this one with HGs and maybe a set of bearings, though I was unable to discern any coolant in the oil.
I am at 424 HP and 371 TQ (STD) on dynojet. Those number have always seemed kinda low to me in reference to others posting here with centri blowers.
TQ on dyno sheet is really dead until about 4K RPM.
I've always felt that the car was a little weak in the low and midrange, especially lacking low end, but seems to pull OK up top.
I am still running the stock converter though.
Engine is MMR 600 with 9.5:1 compression, Paxton Novi 1200 with Air to Air IC. I see ~11-12 lbs of boost, with stock dampener and 3.25 pulley.
For the spring, I was already thinking of installing and maybe advancing the 98 intake cams to see if I could bring the torque curve in just a little earlier. Then swapping pulleys for 2-3 more lbs of boost.
This is my daily driver, so I don't want to do anything too crazy, hence the concern for my accessories.
I do plan to gauge the mechanics willingness to work out the 8-rib swap while I'm at it.

Sorry for the luck. Did you somehow winterize the car and forget to fill it from the high point and created an air pocket? Hence the over heat? That T-stat is barely a year old? I can't imagine it crapping out this new?

Turns out the t-stat wasn't the issue as suspected. Apparently there had been some detonation going on that I never detected and shop thinks the HGs had been leaking for some time. Its been a little while since I've data logged the car, so not sure if maybe a fuel pump issue contributed or what?

Weird  Is the booster pump working still

Only downfall to installing these is you spin the accessorie faster than they were intended. I just helped a friend last summer remove is ATI overdrive because he kept killing power steering pumps at auto x's

Good info. What %OD crank pulley did he have?

I believe its a 12% Its a KB'd 02 GT that makes 700 to the tires. (yea its a sick puppy) But doing more street driving he's pulley'd it down to about 500 so he can start enjoying gears other than 4th and 5th.

No not yet. Car is running great but still getting belt slip. Zack gave me the idea of modifying the tensioner to fit a smaller belt.
I will try that or the next step is to buy a Thump tensioner for stupid money.

My Inovators 10% overdrive balancer is brand new. Only been on car for about 25 miles and works fine BUT I would sell it and probably buy a 8 rib version.
Let me know if someone is interested.

Which front cover do have single bolt tensioner , or 3 bolt? , also what brand S/C pulley are you running?

This thread has everything in it. Hope the OP is making progress. Maybe we should start other threads...
I would not have expected belt slip with a 3.5" SC pulley, a 10% OD crank pulley and the Zack extra pulley, but now we know.
Do you have the steel Cobra tensioner? I gather you are grinding off the stop to allow you to pull it farther back and allow you to install a tighter belt.
Earlier you were asking which Thump Racing 3-bolt fits with the Procharger blower. I believe it was lji372 who said the Vortech Thump Racing Tensioner works with Procharger also. Here's a LINK (http://www.thumpracing.com/) and a picture. I am in the market for one also. Maybe we can persuade a vendor to cut us a good deal.

As for blowers, the D1SC makes good sense with your stroker. Sending the P1SC to Procharger to get it changed is substantially more expensive than buying a D1SC and then selling your P1SC, IMHO.

I have a one bolt tensioner. I haven't modified my existing tensioner yet and I will probably try it first. I would love to get a group buy for a Thump.
I like your idea on buying a D1SC and selling mine.
I wish I knew for sure that the Thump will work. Not sure if anyone is using one with a ProCharger.

Good luck on a group buy! i talked to Tino (the owner) and he has no interest in group buys as he says there is no room to further discount his product.
I would ask him about the Thump tensioner and a Procharger , not sure which S/C bracket your running.
I would also consider the 3 bolt (96-99) timing cover , its a lot better setup to run with a S/C , and changing the belt is 1000 times easier.
