I'm sure this has been discussed MANY times over the past ten years, but a search didn't reveal much, so here goes..

After driving a P71 for 7 years, I finally found an 03 Marauder that I wanted.. badly.. so I bought it.

Anyways, I'm curious, when the car shifts from 2nd to 3rd the converter almost immediately locks up dropping the RPMS way down. Not only does it sound funny, but it kind of takes the 'fun' out of 3rd gear most of the time...

Is there any way to change this? I'm running an SCT tune in it.. Other than that, exhaust, CAI, and nothing else..

Thanks

Sounds like a tune issue to me. Check with the dealer you got your tune from or one of the venders here.

It did this bone stock AND with the SCT tune in... Identical...

And the "tune" is just a 'canned tune'... The performance tune that came with the unit.

Who's tune? if it is SCT canned tune, get rid of it and get a MO's Speed Shop tune, a vendor here and regular forum member, Marty O

Marty's tune is derived from a Marauder on a dyno and can be emailed without going to the shop. It changes the shift schedule as the factory tune engages OD quickly in the pursuit of fuel economy..lol Well worth it.. the SCT tune is junk

I agree.. I'd rather pick something up that's proven.. Does he sell programmers with his tunes? I'll just pull this 'tune' out and sell it to someone local.

Marty sells Xcal etc..tunes, and the whole shop services and is a dealer for SW headers and exhaust. I've been to his shop twice and I live 680 miles away. They build just about everything from mustangs to trucks to 700+Hp marauders and stuff in between. He wont steer you wrong, does not take advantage of you and will recommend based on your goals and budget.

Yes, the stock tune(s) sucks. Very quick 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Premature overdrive lock-up. This was done to maximize fuel economy and MPGs. My car used to hunt constantly for the right gear when cruising on a secondary road at 35-40 MPH. Overdrive would kick in early. Don't think that the canned SCT 7125 (or whatever the MM number was) addressed the shift points at all. A custom tune from one of the vendors recommended here will fix that. I've had my tune for 8 years and am very satisfied with the revised shift schedule and firm shift pressures. The OD is now set for highway speeds at or above 55 MPH.

could the tune or could be something in the valve body... could be both.

could also be a ripped/Torn 2-3 servo piston.

I thought the stock tune locked up the TC in 2nd gear?
