Any word on our K&N setup? I believe this will be a worthwhile mod. Thanks for any input.

At the risk of starting a major argument, oiled filters pose some risk of fouling hot wire mass air flow sensors.

Pantherman,

That can be a real touchy subject...in fairness the people who have that problem may have over oiled their filter...some is good more is better right?:D Personally I use the stock paper filter and change it every 12k miles...

Menace,

The MM supposedly has the one of the best intakes FMC has ever built...before buying anyones FIPK I would want to see real world dyno, not marketing crap, results that prove it is worth the money....

I put in the airfilter that was mentioned here quite some time ago K&N #33-2012...it was a perfect fit for something that was not specifically designed for the Marauder. Did I Dyno it? No. Have there been any problems with it? No. Was there a "seat of the pants" increase? No, not really. Do I like the idea of having it in there? Yes, I bought it for $29 over the internet...
I DO want to report for all you "Newbies" that the car ONLY gets better with mileage. I'm @ 7,200 and she sounds, handles and has better pick-up than she had when I first did mods @ 2,400.

Menace, to add to 03 Merc's comment, I read in a review that a Ford engineer claimed the Marauder has the lowest restriction intake system ever put on a production car (or something real close to that)...

Is the K&N a high quality filter? Undoubtedly...if used and maintained correctly...personally, I'd rather spend 30 seconds replacing the paper filter with a good Motorcraft or FRAM as needed, than to dick around with cleaning/drying/oiling etc...

Todd, what mods have you done?

Todd,

A FIPK (Fuel Injection Performance Kit) is more than the K&N filter. It also includes new straighter plumbling, at least as far as airflow is concerned, to the MAF and then to the intake manifold... You usually also end up replacing the airbox as well with a conical air filter... Since the MM has a very good intake the hp gains of 10 - 20 HP the marketing guys claim on other installs probably won't be realized... that is what I would would want to see a dyno on before spending $200 to $300...

If I remember right K&N usually claims 2 to 4 % horsepower gain for an air filter only.. if you want to read more check out their site at: http://www.knfilters.com/

BTW we all talked bad about you for skipping breakfast last month:D Are you going to make the meeting on the 7th?

Once again you display your superior knowledge. And, no, I unfortunately will not make the SVTOA meeting on the 7th...I'm in New Orleans most of that week.

How about replacing the MAF?

Yes, ford has declared that the Marauder airbox and intake system are the freest flowing of any Ford vehicle.

I think the larger aftermarket companies like K&N and what not, are waiting to see what's up with the car before spending any R&D bucks. We probably won't see much offered for the MM for about a year, and after we have worked out the bugs and shortcomings. That seems to be what we do here, ***** moan, complain, think, figure, find, and fix, yes?

What LM forgot, or could have done better, is all important to all of us, and out of it so far, we have a short list of niffty stuff to consider.

Standing back a moment to look at the MM as a whole car, I must say I am quite impressed with LM's overall delivery. I've found a number of things on the car suprising, and suggest well thought processes for best performance, more than just parts thrown together for the sake of making a buck. This ain't no paint and decal hussy, I believe LM intended to have her stick around awhile. How long and how many, may come to change, but that won't her fault.

Just my two cents...
