Was driving home from work today, looked at my temp and is was just about to redline. I kicked on the air and within 10 seconds it dropped down to normal operating temp. Once I got home I popped the hood and the res tank hand overflowed out of the fill cap. I haven't been running low on coolant either. just went for a 30 min joy ride after getting it out of the shop and had no issues at all.
Any ideas on what the hell may be going on?
Sounds like air in the system.

What was it in the shop for? If they opened up the coolant system then most likely it needs to be burped some more.
The link Zack posted is what to follow.

My ignition switch took a crap and I didn't have the proper tools to get balls deep into the steering column. I don't think they would of had to get into the coolant system right?

Is it possible that the cooling fan didn't come on by the coolant temp. switch, but was switched on by turning on the A/C? Possibly something wrong with whatever controls the radiator fan to be switched on or off due to coolant temperature.
