Have you guys ever had the adapter between the filter and block leak? I noticed a small leak while I was under the car switching foglights and it looks like its coming from that area. Its not the filter itself. But between the block and the adapter the filter screws onto.

Yes, common problem. Need to take off the adapter and install a new gasket. You will lose some coolant and oil in the process.

Might as well do an oil and coolant change when you replace the gasket. lol

Make sure to check your oil level, I ended up being two quarts low when my OFA gasket went.

Fack. I just did a coolant & oil change three months ago when I did the tensioners.

I'll have fluid every where. Going to be doing a trans fluid flush same day. YAY!

Must be time of the oil leaks. The remote filter lines on my dad's F150 ruptured and the stupid low oil sensor in the pan of my fox started leaking over the winter too.

Thanks guys. I plan on using a Felpro brand gasket. Any issues with that?

Also, I'm a torque freak. Anyone know what the torque on the bolts should be?

Just get them tight, youll be using extensions and such, so a torque wrench really wont be of great help. Change your thermostat to a 180° stant while the coolant system is apart

Dealer repaired mine at about 103,000 miles.
No leak since. I'm up to 177000 +
Repair is $500+ at dealer.

No need for a torque wrench, but just be careful not to cross thread the bolts when reinstalling and make sure you clean up the gasket surfaces pretty good.

I did this job last year, not too bad. Drain coolant from petlock, pull off lower rad hose and drain into clean catchpan (perhaps you can reuse coolant if its kept clean) (drain oil)

Get the Felpro gasket - forget part number but they seem to be the best choice. Clean up the assembly, and block mating surface - install new gasket and reassemble. Don't forget to refill fill with oil/coolant. ;)

Definitely save the $500 from the dealer.

I haven't done it yet. When I get to the point of changing my oil that's when I'll do it.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Did this a couple of weeks ago. Not a bad job, but a wee bit messy as about a pint of antifreeze rained down after gasket bolts freed. Oil wasn't a problem as it was in separate container. A little oil in af drain pan but it is easily strained through old tee shirt if it is to close to last change.

Since i did not disconnect lower hose from adapter biggest pain was lining up bolts gasket and holes, but it will be easier if you have a finger ratchet. ONE TIP small bend in a wire can be used from the top to hook and hold gasket to adapter to assist in starting bolts.

I have put a stud in the block at the top of these. Helps with holding the gasket in place and makes the job easier. YMMV.
