View Full Version : Rear Springs

I know there are a couple different routes to go with rear air bag to spring swaps; Suncore or just a simple off brand. There are a couple things I'd like to know that I haven't found about factory bags.
*The air bags, do those have a "spring rate"? If so what is it?
*Fully inflated, what's the height of the OEM bags when the sensor hasn't been moved to lower the car? I assume that would be the height of the Suncore springs, but I need to give them a call to actually find out.
*The Marauder was lower than a Vic/Marquis right?
I'd appreciate hearing whatever someone has to tell. Thanks.

Yes there are different air spring rates for cv sport , marauder, and hpp cars. I don't know what they are. I doubt anybody has measured their air spring while inflated on the car. No real reason to. and all cars are a little different even from factory. What are you trying to get at?

Well I've been searching for new rear springs to help me get the right look for my 295/45 tires. Since they're about the same size as the Marauder's 245/55, I thought the Suncore replacement springs might give me something close to the right rear height with the same rate.

Air springs or coil ?
Coil springs. The base GS never came with air ride.

You can add air ride if you source the kit and the height sensor which I believe are discontinued and it is expensive I hear.
coil springs will not be like air springs in terms of height, ride, bounce etc..Your best bet is to buy custom springs from coil spring specialties or something like that. All factory springs are going to be higher than the marauder.

CV civilian coil springs are 130lbs/in police are 160 lbs/in
Air springs range from like 89lbs/in to 102 lbs/in. Maraduer might be a tad higher.
So you can't compare them and buy coil springs with a 102 lb/in rate and get the same effect.

Yeah, switching over to air bags isn't something I'd do. Expensive & difficult to do. 160lb springs that are lowered 1" from stock paired with KYB HD shocks should give me a decent launch at the drag strip. Marauder front springs were 325lb, I can probably up that to 350 or maybe 400lb, drop it an inch from stock GS height, and have that work well with KYB struts up front. I appreciate the help man, thanks.
