Well, I know the MM engine is a cammer. But is it a hemi? My future son-in-law is a MOPAR freak. He has several. Anyway, I saw him at Christmas after listening to the MOPAR talk for a while, I asked him if he would like to look at the engine in the MM. It blew his mind, it looks much large that the 440 in his vintage MOPAR. He asked me if it is a hemi and I don't know the answer.

no. hemi's have a 2v set up where the intake and exhaust valve arranged vertically in the heads combustion chamber, and not horizontally like a normal 2v engine.

Hemi refers to hemispherical combustion chamber which is in the head, hence hemi head,
I do believe the dohc 4.6 is a hemi.

"Hemi" is a trademark, so no, the 4.6 DOHC is not a Hemi.

But yes, the combustion chamber is hemispherical.

But yes, the combustion chamber is hemispherical.

but the valve arrangement isn't and that's what makes a mopar hemispherical head a "HEMI"

so technically its a hemispherical head but not a mopar "HEMI" type head.

and the shape of a 4v combustion chamber looks nothing like a traditional hemispherical chamber

Its not a Hemi .. Its way more efficient than that..

I was watching an episode of Barrett Jackson and the announcer was talking about our 4.6 cammers and how physically big and impressive looking they are. Nice.

They take up too much space for too few cubic inches.

So the marauder engine is a semi-hemi ;)

5.8 mod motor looks the same. ;)

So do Ferrari engines. ;)

I agree too few cubic inches for a car that weighs 4200 lbs

Do you know the shape of the combustion chamber on the DOHC?

I miss my MM...Hemi or not...

My MM had much more power than my current and new Hemi...but a V-8 is a V-8 :)

Purchased a Durango R/T last Friday..a whopping 310 miles on the odometer so far...few mods coming.

Your MM was not stock cuz. Your Durango makes more power than anything I've ever owned smh. My #1 choice for an SUV/crossover. Fine choice.

LOL!

you can laugh, but I remember from about 10 years ago, actually from the time of my 98 cobra that the engineers described the 4.6 as a semi-hemi.

Just sayin...

Yep....

external dimensions are very impressive....people often ask if it is a 500 CID big block.

Then you must admit that it is a small 281 CID engine.

If only the Coyote 5.0 DOHC was available for our heavy Marauders back in the day....:shake:

BTW: 'Semi Hemis' are BEASTS!....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boss_429

I believe the Modular 4v combustion chamber is called a "pent-roof" design?

+1

I would not describe the 4v heads (or any modern Ford head) as a Hemi in any sense of the work, trademark or technical.

Yes, but you can't beat those cylinder heads. Such is the price of 4V DOHC.

BBC is considered a semi-hemi, with its canted valves.

You may not be able to beat the exotic sweetness of a 4V , but an LS motor can make a ton more HP , if i had built an LS motor instead of a MOD motor , i would easily have made over 1,000 RWHP!

True, but 600 HP on the street will be enough for me. I love the Ford engine.

Cant argue with that 600 is plenty for the street.
