Ive enclosed some pics, some just to show like the windshield me and a buddy reinstalled and one of the visors I just had redone.

The others I have some questions I was hoping to get some answers for. One pic shows the the carb heat tube hole and to its right a fitting of some kind, anyone know what that is and where it is suppose to connect???

One is of a vacuum line by the distributor cap that I have connected behind the carb in a pic that is hard to see, not sure if that is even where it goes.

The other is of the electrical and master cylinder, cant seem to get the inside dash lights to work and have changed all the fuses, the light switch, the ignition switch. The wiring has been messed with before I got the car so its hard to tell what goes where. Any advice???

The other is of my awesome looking motor that blows smoke out of the exhaust, looks good anyway.

And the last is my steering wheel project, cleaned out cracks in it and filled with an epoxy putty, now need to sand and paint. Let you know how it turns out.

As always all help is greatly appreciated.

The tube goes into the exhaust manifold that's where it gets the heat from. Looks like the original piece rusted out which is common. You'll either have to drill it out or get a repair kit.

Where did it go before you took it apart? Always good to have pictures or diagrams where things go before you take them apart.

Get a wiring diagram and trace out the wires.

The hole to the right with the fitting is where your choke tube from the carb connects. That fitting is what's left of your tube after it rusted apart. The hole to the left is the inlet where the air goes in. Leave it alone.

Looks like your engine was replaced at some point. The air cleaner and valve covers are newer than your car.

Yeah Ive noticed that same thing, they look early 70's mustangish. Not sure honestly if they were changed to improve appearance or if the engine was swapped.

I guess I need to find some numbers on the block and try to figure out exactly what is in there, the firing order is the same as a 390 FE for sure.

The only reason I stripped and painted them is because I though they were original, now I think I'm gonna get rid of them and buy a dress up kit.

Thanks for the info kirk.

See my answers....

The problem with trying to follow a wiring diagram is these wires have been spliced and cut and tapped and things added throughout the years. No color code to follow because so much has been changed. The first people to work on the car ran new wires to the ignition so I'm not sure of, well, anything i guess. The horns dont work either.

My thought is to replace all the wiring but again, lots of time, work, and uhh......oh yeah money.

And when I got the car that line was burned in half going nowhere and plugged with a stick, cant remember where the one end was plugged but the firing order wasnt even right on the car so who knows about everything else.

Any idea where I can look on the block or manifold to find a number to use as a reference to identify it????

And thank you for the help, I really do appreciate it.

Look at the casting numbers on the heads. They will get you in the ball park. Ford numbers use the decade, then year. So if the casting numbers on the heads are C6AE-E for example (made up number) the C=1960s, 6=1966. A D7AE would be 1977.

I have a 64 Galaxie XL. I think that casting number you gave may be C8 for 68 (or D8 which is a truck 390). Up to 64, the engine oil fill was through a cap and tube going into the passenger side front of the intake manifold. In 65 the fill cap was moved to the left valve cover and the intake redesigned.

The tube from the distributor runs to a fitting on the passenger side front on the carb base (63 was a solid tube with a different vacuum canister on the distributor). It may have a 1/4" pipe plug in it or a short piece of tubing with a cap on it. That's the ported vacuum for the distributor. Running it to the back of the carb is constant vacuum which will make it pull full ignition advance at idle and run rough, also make ita dog on acceleration.

That's a C8, so most likely came out of a 1968 car or truck. The 390 was Ford's big block work horse through out the 1960s. There were lots of vehicles in junk yards to get replacement engines from.

So the engine is a 68 Ford FE 390??? If so are there big differences in this engine and the 63 because if there is Im going to need to buy another book. The manual I have covers 62 to 64 I think galaxie and monterey/marauder.
