View Full Version : Is This a Reasonable Price?

Hey everyone,
Came across this ad on Autotrader:
http://www.marshallsautosales.com/vehicle/184972023
The car looks really clean and according to the salesman as mint as can be. So is $15,000 reasonable? If not, what would be a good price?
Thanks!

Under 50k mileage cars tend to be worth what one is willing to pay as it is getting harder to find the lower mile ones, however the car is pretty much 12 years old..IMO it is not way out of line, but I'm thinking something under $14k.

There is no price for these cars. Dead honest.

I would shoot for $12 but I'm not sure they will come down that far. Only one way to find out though.

Not terribly overpriced, Private sale would likely be $12,000 to $13,000
$13,500 is a fair offer with the warranty included.
For $15,000 I think I would buy one with boost even it had some more mileage on it.

I'll never understand how a 12 year old, 48k car can be described as "mint", "like new" or "showroom condition".
That aside, good luck with your search!
PS, I'll be putting my 50k, mint, like new, showroom condition 2003 Marauder up for sale later this year.

I paid $17,995 for a 2004 with 22,000 miles. See if they will take $1,500 off and it would be a decent deal.

My options are limited to financing or finding one for under $6000. I plan to trade in my GMQ for this one if I can get the numbers where I like them.

yeah dont pay more than 14k. hell, go all in at 13,500. I always go by my dads 200,000 mile/300,000 km rule. 200000 miles is the average expected usage life of a panther and since this one already has almost 50k that means its already gone a 1/4 of its life. I see ones under 10000 miles that go for round $20000. $15k for a $20K car with a quarter of its life gone makes no sense.

Sell privately first, trade in against a purchase is a lose/lose situation, you will come out short every time.

I'm upside down, I lose either way. Atleast going this route I can get the car I want and get out from under the Marquis. I realize I'll be upside down on the Marauder but it is not going to go anywhere.

NADA has it priced at $9,325 clean retail. Carfax says it just had its upper&lower ball joints replaced, also it spent its whole life in Pa+NH. two states smack in the middle of rust belt. I would look under the car for rust, also I say something about the red calipers you might get a few hundred off for that.

I have a feeling they are not going to budge enough on the price for me to feel comfortable doing a deal. I'm hoping to get there Saturday afternoon to talk to the salesperson I've been exchanging emails with.

Way too much to spend on a stock car.
Spend half that on a 100K car, tune it, keep it clean and drive the crap out of it. If it breaks, fix it.

I paid $14k for mine w/30k miles in 2010.
Be willing to walk away after setting your final offer. They want to sale that car when it's all said and done. Especially if it's been there for a while

Went and saw the car today. Looked good, had some clear coat issues. No rust and runs good. Doesn't pull very hard but that's likely just the way stock Marauders are? It was my first time driving one so I can't say.
Although they liked my GMQ they could not offer me any more than $5k on trade which just won't work.
So, for now at least, I am out.

Doesn't pull very hard but that's likely just the way stock Marauders are? I guess it all depends on what your expectations were going into it.
Did you get it up on the highway? Even a stock Marauder has enough oomph over a stock civvy 2V car if you give it the beans over 50mph.

... And I wish they wouldn't. In the collector's world, they aren't.
My new favorite show is on the Velocity Channel. It's called "What's My Car Worth" -- and they often talk about the rarity of vehicles. It's quite an education to learn that low production does not necessarily mean rare.

Rare doesn't always mean valuable. Clearcoat issues? BIG expense!

Nope, couldn't get to a highway, I know that's where it would have shined. I honestly don't care about the performance, that can always be improved.

Yeah there where white spots associated with clear coat failure all over the roof and some other spots. It even had s spot on the fender around the trim you could see the clear coming off.
It's not a $15k car, but I didn't even get into price so I don't know what they would take.

If you don't care about the performance, what do you care about? Especially if you'll be upside down on the Marauder... Keep your Grand Marquis.
MERCULES

I think he cares about the performance as he knows it can be modified.
IMHO there are plenty of excellent boosted Marauders with 80 to 120,000 miles on them for a lot less money with plenty of life left in them.
If you boost the Marauder and drive it a lot for yourself good investment, if you boost and want to sell it, bad investment but great deal for the buyer.

I am upside down on the Grand Marquis, but I also have the money to pay it off right now if I wanted to. I'm not going to do that because I like having extra money in case of emergency, plus I have a few other things going on.
That being said, my down payment on a Marauder would be the amount I'm upside down, plus $1000. About $6,000 If I got proper trade in value. That was the plan, wasn't going to work at that dealer.
Anyways, the GMQ is for sale locally and I am continuing to explore my options.
as for performance. I want a Marauder because I love them, not because they are fast...because they aren't until you mod.
