View Full Version : "After Marauder" cars?

Hey guys -- It's been awhile since I've been here. I've had two 'Rauders, one Black, one Silver Birch. I enjoyed them both immensity. I'm more "car guy" than "brand car" -- and have had many cars both before and after the Marauders. Since owning the last Marauder, I've had (2) BMW 135i s, and now have a 2013 Cadillac CTS-V. I totally love it -- and hell, when the 2016 V-Cars arrive later this year with 640HP, I might just have to upgrade... My question to the group: What high-performance cars have you bought post-Marauder? As a PS, the Ford Mustang that's just about to hit showrooms looks real appealing to me, could bring me back to the Ford family!
Here are pictures of my V: http://www.functionbox.org/CTSV/
Oh -- and I also have an old car... I found this sub-10,000 Cordoba I couldn't pass up: http://www.functionbox.org/Darlene/

Great looking car. I almost bought one instead of the MM, but dealers were jerks about letting you test drive one and I wanted the size of the MM for the family. It certainly is on the "next car" list along with a Challenger and a Mustang - 4 or 5 years from now.

Me too, certainly from the drivetrain and sheet metal. Those Ecoboost sixes are turning out to be very solid engines. I feel the Taurus's shortcoming is a little bit of a plasticy interior. The Taurus is ready for an upgrade.

Copy that... My dealer practically begged me to go for a spin, especially after telling him that I'd have to buy it if I drove it. Instead, I went home to make sure I could scrap up a down payment. I returned, when for a spin, and started the negotiations. I told him I had to "sleep on it," -- and began negotiating via the Internet -- for ten days. Interestingly, I wasn't really in the market, but saw the blue one in the window.... Then I went inside and saw the blue Recaro seats, and I was sold. It's a 2013 "Special Edition" color: Stealth Blue Metallic. The graphite-colored wheels are part of the package.

It's an 1981. Chrysler made a "sporty" version (yeah, right) that costs less than the regular Cordoba, called the Cordoba LS. This particular monster boasts an 90 HP Slant Six. I would love to do a V8 swap, but she has less than 10,000 miles on the clock, doesn't leak a drip of oil, idles and runs perfect -- so keeping it (mostly) stock for now. I had one like it in HS, and several since, so I guess that's why I love her.

LOL!! Ricardo Montalban and Herve Villechaize made that line and commercial famous. But it was the body style before this one. I remember this body style just not the 6 cyl version but it make sense since we were in the middle of the 2nd in less than 5 years of gas conservation times where the highest hp may have been 200 if that. During that time in the '70's my mom had a Charger, the Dodge version of the Chrysler Cordova. It was burgundy w/ burgundy interior and I just knew that commercial was referring to her interior. That thing had the 360 engine w/ the whining starter and it was a piece of crap, stayed broken down and I've been a Mopar hater ever since, that's been about 37-38 years ago.

Not sure, but with FoMoCo constantly disappointing me year after year with their performance car & truck offerings(no v8 performance sedan, no Gen III Lightning or supercharged Harley-Davidson, nothing limited edition or rare) except the SHO & Mustangs. I wish they would revive a couple of name plates from the 60's & 70's...Galaxy 500's, Torino ,Fairlane with retro updated styling or even that 49er show car they did about 15 years ago and drop the Coyote in it and maybe even offer a supercharged GT version. If I don't get something I like soon I may just jump to Lexus. I love my wife's 2010 LS460, 380hp of luxury. Not gonna smoke the tires but its not geared for that but it will eat up the highway on top end. Her 2000 GS300 not bad either even at 15 yrs old w/210,000 miles. If its a Ford it would be the SHO, a Boss 302 Laguna Sega or 2013 up GT500. But have no plans to get rid of the Marauder anytime soon if ever.

having just returned from a week in Naples, I'll take the warm weather. Cars will follow. ;)
Nice cars roaming the streets everywhere down there - in February.
Within 15 minutes on one highway, 13 newer Mustangs passed by, 4 Camaro's, 3 R/T Challengers, and within one drive on Captiva Island, 5 Charger R/T s.
Plenty of Caddy's and Jags and Maserati's
A ton of Crown Vics' and Grand Marquis - but not one single Marauder!
When I do get something newer, it will be an odd model or unique color - something to not blend into the crowd.

This is my daily driver, 2003 Audi A6 Avant 2.5 TDI... 40 MPG Highway, do I have to say more? For local standards this is a massive car already but it looks small next to the Marauder. Unfortunately after buying the Marauder this might have to go soon as car ownership is simply too expensive to be able to afford running multiple cars over here. That's a real shame, been in my family ever since and never gave me any issues so I wish I could find a way to keep it.

Ship that thing stateside!
Funnily enough I have been considering to export it if I have to sell it simply because over here I wouldn't get anything for it. If I get really lucky someone might pay me $5000 in a local sale but certainly not more than that.
Shipping it stateside however will be very difficult, I actually have a friend over in Indiana who would very much like this car because of the 2.5 TDI engine that was never sold in the US but this is exactly the problem, this engine and its emissions specifications have never been verified by US authorities which would make it impossible to import it until it is 25 years old. However I have been told that authorities in Canada are much easier going over this issue and could allow importing it there.

At first thought they were the same toll I drove a coworkers marauder one night. No comparison!! I have the 3 suspension mode (normal, sport, track) as u change modes it gets VERY tight and tranny holds rpms longer and shift firmer. Can a turn mean corner doin 50 easily.
The ride, well every falls asleep in passenger and backseats.
I have aero turbine mufflers no resonators, mom doesn't complain about drone like she did in marauder. She use to wear ear protection.lol

Mine will probably up for sale next year. I'm looking at SHO's, older M5's, Chev SS, G8 GXP, and CTS-V. I love the SHO but I've turned into a V8 snob. The marauder breathing through magna flows is such a sweet melody.

Very cool thread. My first car was a 1980 Cordoba with the slant six. Yes I broke it. Hopped it up with a 4BBL carb and in the process messed up the throttle linkage and during a drive the transmission went into neutral and carb went wide open. Did not get it shut down before spinning a rod bearing. Replaced it with a marine slant six but it never was as quick as the 1969 Impala I purchased 3 years after the Cordoba. I replaced the Cordoba with a 1983 Dodge Magnum with the 318 which I had for almost 10 years. It later went on to win awards at the Mopar Nationals. Went thru a few mustangs and Lincoln's in the 1990's. Just bought the wife a used Dodge Magnum with the Hemi and out of the box it is quicker than the Marauder. With so many under 6 second cars available I have to say it is hard to keep up with the new introductions each year. I have enough in the stable to keep me happy for a while so I am lucky to be without a payment for a while...

Wow -- Thanks for all the responses! I'm totally impressed that the group here aren't brand-snobs. There's a l lot of love for Mopars here! I grew up in a Chrysler-family, but my love of anything with wheels and a motor have found me trying all kinds of brands. The Chicago Auto Show is this week, so I'll be kicking the tires on .... everything. I was pretty interested in an Audi S6, but they're starting to look a little stale. If Cadillac makes this: http://www.cadillac.com/concept-cars/elmiraj.html I'll be first in line!

The Aussies love their wings and I don't actually mind the look of it to be honest.
It's powered by the Boss 290 engine, that's a 5.4 Modular 4V V8 with a similar setup as the Mustang Cobra R, pushes 390 bhp and 380 ft lb of torque.
I was looking at one of these last summer but the car was located in Ireland and $20k asking price plus importing costs on top just killed it for me, got my Marauder for half.
Currently I have another Aussie car in my garage, a 99 Fairlane which is basically the Town Car version of the Falcon. That car was basically a barn find that I pulled out of a shed in the middle of nowher near Berlin for $2000. The previous owner claims that it belonged to the Australian embassy and was the ambassadors car but I couldn't confirm that and there is also no paperwork whatsoever to go with the car. I've always been addicted to Aussie cars and they are almost as difficult to import to Europe as to the States so I did the stupid thing and bought it. The car is in very poor condition from just sitting in a shed without being moved for years and I probably will never be able to register it due to the lack of paperwork but I thought it would a bit of fun to have and maybe I restore it one day. I've had it for a year and not a lot happened to it since, just couldn't find the time thus far. It is powered by a 302 Windsor 5.0 V8 that you will also find in early 90s Town Cars with what converts to only 53k miles on the clock so it was barely ever driven.

I'm not going to be one of those, it will be my 2014 Honda Accord V6 that I miss whenever I trade to a Charger R/T....or, it won't be 'rid' of MM, but a thought out decision based on my needs and wants for a weekend car. Sometimes, it is just time for a change.
Can't wait for my Mopar later this year. Most certainly won't be anything from Ford. No Ecoboost in my future and I need 4 doors. I drove my Depts new 2015 Explorer and its pure confirmation that Im no longer a Ford guy plus I won't buy a full-size pickup made of aluminum. If I had the money then a black or blue Caddy Vagon!

My dream post-MM car was going to be a Challenger with either the 5.7 or 6.2.
Reality sets in, so now I'm looking at an old Volvo S70 2.4L with turbo that a friend is selling dirt cheap.
This is only a temp car for me as my kid will get it once in college.
Gives me a little time to get my Marauder working better to be my DD again.
