Have a dreaded creak or groan coming from right rear. Sounds like metal on rubber. Weird because it only really happens on acceleration and deceleration. Could this be a watts link or control arm

...or a shock...or a body mount...or an exhaust hanger.

Check the control arms. My metcos start squeeking when I need to grease them.

(newbie question) the control arms are what goes from the axle forward correct?/ I get those and the watts links confused.. I wonder if the stock ones have grease zerks...

Yep those are the control arms. Stock do not have zerks. Mine would squeek when going over bumps, so its not the same scenario, but its a sqeek none the less. I would first make sure bolts are all tight underneath, then have a field day with a can of silicone spray. If the silicone doesnt work, you might have to take parts off and manually grease them by hand.

omg I fixed it before It drove me nuts - it was the TOW HITCH I INSTALLED

I mis drilled the holes a bit so there was tension on the bolts, hence my problem!

Thank friggin God - noises, squeaks and groans drive me insane

UPDATE - seems the mis drilled holes weren't the problem, after I fixed that I noticed I still had a slight squeak - I found what the real culprit was. Since these hitches fit so tight around the trunk pan, there was a small area where the trunk pan was contacting the hitch frame. Beat the trunk pan back just a bit and the creak - groan - squeak is just a memory!
