Hey guys, hoping someone can clear things up for me, I want to make sure I have everything I need for my 4.10 swap. I ordered the complete install kit from late model restoration ( http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/item/LRS-4209FRE-K/Mustang-410-Ford-Racing-Gears-M-4209-88410 ) seems to me it has everything I need, except I just read the fluid is the wrong kind:confused: I also have the M-4700-C rebuild kit for the carbon clutches, what else do you think is a must buy before heading to the shop to install? from what I've read a ford racing girdle? Not planning on changing to 31 spline, no plans to boost, in the near future atleast haha. will my stock 28 spline be fine? and last I am a little confused about the s-spring that comes with that kit, seems some say you can get it on a 28 spline with a little elbow grease and others say you cant use it. Thanks for help in advance guys! 6 years of owning this car I'm finally starting to wake it up and have fallen in love with it all over again! Wouldn't of known where to start if it wasn't for reading what most of you have already accomplished

You are going to need a tune for those 4.10 gears otherwise your shifting will be all out of whack.28 spline will be fine. Do you have a place to install it? it is not a do it yourself job if never done it before. The S spring is part of the trac lok so yes it goes with. You should have one in your rear end now with the 3.55

I didn't look close, but what is wrong with royal purple? just go to dealer and get some friction modifier to add in.

I already have a tune. I know there is alot of posts on 4.10 install, I am just a bit confused as to what I actually NEED as opposed to what I should be doing if I had unlimited funds. If I have to get a few more things and wait a couple more weeks I am fine with that I want to make sure I do it once and do it right. The fluid is 75-90 and I didn't realize that until it was already shipped out, from what I understand I need 75-140. I do have a shop already picked out have heard great things from mustang guys so figured I would take it to him.

Getting other gear oil is no biggie, might be able to swap it out with your shop and get credit for it. I would take the time to talk to the shop since they would do the work and an 8.8 is the same for mustang, marauder, crown vic etc. Clutches, bearings, possibly spider gears pending condition?
Read the sticky about the 31 spline upgrade and leave out the 31 spline stuff..use it as a reference.

The use of friction mod is not needed with RP.
The RP gear oil is formulated with a FM in it.
If you add FM to the RP or RedLine it will actually defeat the operation of the clutch pack.
As long as he uses the 75w140 he is good.
I would recommend just using cheap dino gear oil for initial after install flush and also for break in - then drain & refill with the expensive stuff.

The crush spacer for pinion pre-load is not the best idea for a real upgrade. Using a solid spacer shim kit allows future seal replacement without the need to be concerned with pinion bearing pre-load.
A clutch type differential will wear out, and need to be rebuilt. An Eaton Detroit Trutrac or Detroit Locker will last the life of the car, and need no maintenance.
Ford went to 31 spline axles in the Panther chassis for good reason. Are 28 spline shafts adequate with a 240hp 4.6 Mod-motor 2v? Ford didn't seem to think so. When modifying a chassis, why not upgrade?
Any cover/girdle that has pre-load screws for the differential main bearings is a good idea, along with studs to replace the cap screws.
