I know CDs are becomIng a dead technology but I just cant bring myself to toss the Factory 6 disc changer I just replaced. Basically It would load CDs it just wouldn't play them. Is there anybody that fixes these or anywhere I can send it to be fixed.?they are few and far between and it would be great to have this one as a backup

hmm, I'd invest repair money/time into an Escape Audiophile 6 disc mp3 head unit and leave the working trunk changer alone, as a spare..

Yes but would I retain my steering wheel controls?

Yes you will. Only thing you'll lose is access to the 6-CD changer in the trunk, but you'll have a 6-CD changer in the dash. Plus the unit has much better sound.

Ford Audiophile unit to replace stock MM:
6L8T-18C815-FD
Runs the factory sub and there is no need for the stock changer as the audiophile system is a 6-disc in unit player. Everything is right at your finger tips including steering wheel control function.

The plugs on the back of the replacement headunit need to match the stock headunit.

I used this to add an AUX input to the factory head-unit.

I've since gone with a Pioneer NAV head-unit. Has GPS, BT, iPod, micro SD card, USB inputs and rear camera.

there is a picture on the one I posted of the back, hard to tell if its the same plugs or not...thought of going aftermarket but really want to keep the stock look and wheel controls...thast aux interface is nice, might do that with the radio that is a sure fit,,

The 6L8T-18C815-FD hands down is the best OEM upgrade you can do. I really enjoyed mine until I went with a Pioneer in-dash navi unit.

The Aux input piece that fastblackmerc listed is what you'll need if you want to use your iPod or another type of audio input. Then you just need to get the RCA to 3.5mm cable or whatever iPod connection is used.

You can still retain steering wheel controls with an aftermarket unit, just need to buy the steering wheel control interface piece. I have it on mine with the Pioneer navi unit and works fine.

I wonder if you can use the trunk cd changer and the in dash 6 disc unit at the same time? Probably not but that would be cool.

You sound like me before I upgraded. I bought the PIE adaptor that fast black merc posted above and it's very simple. Plug in to the back of the radio and then I just ran the cable down the back of the dash. I have a 3.5mm input that plugs into my Samsung Galaxy S4, but will plug into iPhone, iPod, etc...

Just press the AUX button on the radio and voila instant connection

Correct, that why I went with a music keg before I got the aftermarket head-unit. This is the one I have:
