I had my 03 at my local shop for a starting issue last fall, my mechanic went thru a laundry list of thing before finding a few badly corroded wires, he replaced my starter also.
Starting issue solved,,,,
About a month ago turned the key, nothing, this time had it towed to ford, the diagnosis, , needs new starter, I thought my mechanic put in a lousy starter,$ 400 later my car is good again,, 5 days later same thing,, Ford said it must have been a bad starter,, replaced at no cost. Its been 3 days now and the exact same thing. Tow truck is on the way to take it back to ford.
Any idea what would cause a starter to fail so quickly?

Is it really the starter?
Could be
Wiring
Ignition switch
Relay
PATS

My exact thought, both times they said power to the starter but starter not functioning, put in new starter working,, im confused,, I think they may dig a little deeper this time

I'd try a new relay first... easiest and cheapest....

Relay are electro-mechanical devices and don't last forever.

Richardp had a similar problem, although im not sure why this worked, but it did. Theres a diode In the fuse box near the battery, I pulled it out and re inserted it, looked like some sort of fuse. Car started up no problem. I think it was corroded terminals and by removing it and re inserting, it must have made a better connection. Worth a shot. Good luck.

If the starter has 12V when keyed then it's not a relay or diode. That only leaves a bad starter, connection at starter, or ground.
