Well I've driven the car about 100 miles or so and the exhaust has gotten much better.

However the gas pedal kind of sticks when you first push on it, so bad in fact that it will make the car jerk violently or make the tires spin. Something is off with the gas pedal and I'm not sure what it is..

As always any help is very much appreciated. I enclosed a pic of the linkage under the hood that connects to the gas pedal.

Oh and once again kirk sorry for my little outburst, was having a bad day.

Clean the throttle body and butterflies......crud builds up behind the butterflies causing this condition!!:argue:

Remove the throttle body to do it right and use any good carb cleaner.....you'll be happy again!!

No worries here Matt. Everybody has an off day now and then.

I agree that your throttle plates are probably sticking in the bores. One of the other things you can check is the idle adjustment screw. This will be a screw with a spring around it that pushes on the throttle lever. If the screw is turned out far enough that it's not touching the throttle this can contribute to the sticking. Turning this screw in just far enough to keep the throttle plates from completely closing against the bores will prevent the sticking.

I'd clean all the linkage and relube. Looks like the carb is relatively new so the throttle plates should be OK.

Damn.....

I thought he was talking about an '03-'03 Marauder .......sorry but advice still would apply to carb!!:shake:

Probably the stop screw like "kirk" said!!

If all of the above check out, one other culprit could be a broken/bad motor mount. Especially if taking off with a lot of throttle. Motor can pivot some, bind the throttle linkage and stay sort of "stuck" until torque is reduced (usually when shifting). Just something I have seen a few times over the years. Happened to me on a '69 Impy that I had years ago...

This can be fun. I remember when a customer brought their Buick in to the shop (64/66ish). Car has mechanical throttle linkage (vs. cable). Took for a test drive, starting from stop step on gas and wham! engine mount was broken, when motor torqued unrestrained it caused the throttle linkage to jam carb wide open. Talk about going for a ride! had to shut key off so motor would release the throttle. After pulling the drivers seat out of my a$$ I drove back to shop very cautiously to do an engine mount repair.

I adjusted that screw and it made it idle a little higher but still sticking. Im not sure what it looks like going through the firewall to where it touches the gas pedal lever.

Is is just a rod that curves through the wall and that is the gas lever or is there some kind of throttle cable in there or a spring or what???

Never taken one apart before. Gonna take apart whats there and clean but the rod that goes up to the carb is a little bent and i dont think the carb link is the right size, it seems a little small and wont stay clipped on the rod.

Well thanks for the help guys, I'll get it figured out.

If you were able to increase the idle, but still have the sticking problem, then I don't think it's your butterflies sticking. Sounds like something else.

Yes, it's just a bent rod with a pivot point bolted to the firewall, with one end under your gas peddle.

Yeah I just thought today to try the pedal with the car off and it pushes fine. I think i got a vacuum line crossed or something
