When i start my car usually when its a cold start im hearing a rattling sound underneath my car for a second or two then goes away. Anyone have any clue what this could be? Could it be motor, tranny, or exhaust? engine runs great no ticking or anything. Tranny shifts fine

What oil filter do you have? If anything other than Motorcraft I've heard people having issues on start up

Timing chains will rattle until the oil pressure comes up.....fairly common and won't hurt anything!!:shake:
Motorcraft FL-820S filter will do better and may eliminate it completely??;)

Could be time to replace your timing chains. How many miles on your odo?

exhaust leak?

just rolled 90,000 miles...i dont think it would be an exhaust leak, because this rattling only happens on cold starts, once the car is warmed up it will never rattle on start ups

thats funny because it sounds pretty much just like that. but could it still be the starter if it only does it on cold starts. if the starter was bad wouldnt it do it every start up?
EDIT: nevermind i jumped the gun and went straight to watching the video without reading his post. He also stated that it was during cold starts like in the morning. I bet and hope this is what it is. Ill try and fix her up this coming weekend. Thanks everyone. I love this group

That is exactly why it could be an exhaust leak. Once the pipes and manifolds are hot they expand sealing any small leaks.

I would also think it's the starter. Both of my cars make that noise when they haven't been driven in a while when it's cold out. Once the weather is nicer, I'll inspect and replace the starters.
