To me, only a full top hat looks good. Do you remember if it was a full one like mine or a half top where it ended at the B-pillar? Either way, those don't belong on Marauders.

No, they do not exist, it was prolly those fake tops that look like a convertible..fabric and all. There is a concept convertible around ebay from time to time. that is not even street legal as it has no VIN, so no registration to get plates.

Not a fan of fake tops on any car

That's the geriatric version of the Marauder. Only sold in Florida.

He did look like he was pushing Late 60's, and yes it was full rag top like a beige or light brown..

Funny, I saw one on Google images, a Marauder convertable - thought it was just a concept but sounds lie a few made it to the pavement. Didnt look right, reminded me of the the 80s Mercury Capri (same body/chassis as a fox body) that has the aftermarket ASC convertable package for those of you old enough to remember those relics

Funny, I saw one on Google images, a Marauder convertable - thought it was just a concept but sounds lie a few made it to the pavement. There was only one concept and it wasn't actually a convertible as it had no top at all.

As RCR said, what the OP probably saw was a fake.

Haven't seen anything yet stating whether the car spotted was a 2-door or a 4-door?

I guess it's a matter of semantics. I define a "convertible" as a car with a flexible roof that can fold down and be stowed. Ford called the concept a convertible, but it actually has no roof whatsoever. There is nothing under the cover behind the rear seats. The car also has no glass other than the windscreen.

The convertible concept car got a lot of interest at the New York Auto Show way back then.

If I recall correctly, the Marauder convertible concept was actually a '99 Crown Vic with the whole conversion done to it.

We still haven't defined whether we're talking about a vinyl top car or a convertible, but I'm bored so I'm gonna type.

I have seen pictures of several vinyl top 2003-4 Marauders. More of them out there than you might think. So if you think of vinyl as a rag you certainly may have seen one. They are all aftermarket add-ons.
(Vinyl tops were an option on 1960s Marauders)

If you saw a true convertible it was more than likely home made like this http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=89463&highlight=do+it+yourself+conve rt

The only Marauder convertibles made by Ford were the 3 concepts;

1962 Marauder
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii12/Kirk_D/Mercury%20Marauders/1962MercuryMarauder.jpg (http://s260.photobucket.com/user/Kirk_D/media/Mercury%20Marauders/1962MercuryMarauder.jpg.html)

1964 Super Marauder
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii12/Kirk_D/Mercury%20Marauders/64test.jpg (http://s260.photobucket.com/user/Kirk_D/media/Mercury%20Marauders/64test.jpg.html)

2002 Marauder
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii12/Kirk_D/Mercury%20Marauders/exterior6.jpg (http://s260.photobucket.com/user/Kirk_D/media/Mercury%20Marauders/exterior6.jpg.html)

There were also a handful of late 1963 Monterey convertibles that had a Mercury Marauder script on the trunk lid like this http://homepages.wmich.edu/~dillery/3Z69Q528981.html
While I'm sure some would argue the point, these were not Marauders, they were Montereys. It was just another example of how hard Mercury was pushing the Marauder name in 1963.

So now, please tell us all, which Marauder ragtop did you see?

There's a member here that had started his own convertible conversion:
