my guy wants to charge me $350 for putting 4.10 gears in and new axles and seals...myhow the prices have gone up from my old racing buddies lol used to be 20 pack of beer get the job done, then $200 for gear swaps now $350. Is that still reasonable or should i keep looking? He isnt a shade tree mechanic he has been building cars since i was a teenager. now im 34

Reasonable.
Have seen some guys post paying insane $ for the job.
$350 is a good deal for that much labor
Next question - is the tech Ford 8.8 experienced..
Make sure they use a solid pinion shim and not the crush collar for best long lasting results.

$350.00 - $500.00 is a reasonable range. Does your price include parts or are you supplying them?

im supplying all the parts, thats just labor. I just miss the good ole days where we would all work on each others cars. Those days are long gone due to real world responsibilities lol
and yes he is very experienced in the 8.8 rear end. Where im from thats all we used to run was Mustangs back in the day

A long time since you paid for skilled labor on the car, it has been.

At 100 bucks an hour that's 3.5 hr/ labor to tear down and set up gears.
I'd say the time is reasonable.

Darn near the same amount of work, the only difference would be keeping the old axle bearings or knocking them out. It all has to come apart either way. So, check those axles and have some cash set aside just in case :D I know, easy for me to say. But if you've got a lot of miles and a rumble in the rear . . .

just called my buddy the mechanic. He quoted me $350 for just the gears and new axles, then i asked him to do a tranny flush he said another $120 and since he had the car i was going to have him put in the BCM (which is a Pain the you know what to get to) that would be another $50. I dropped it off Monday night to him. Called him tonight and car is ready to be picked up tomorrow!!! i asked how much money total do i needto bring, im expecting him to say around $500. He told me $350 for everything!! Not only am i getting my car back with 4.10 gears and AC should be fixed im taking about $150-$200 less than what i was expecting
