View Full Version : The thrill is gone.

Got the Marauder out of hibernation for the first drive since Oct.
I admit, I didn't get the thrill I used to get when driving her.
This just reinforces that it is time to sell her to someone else who will enjoy her like I did for many years.
Hopefully someone at the KY meet will make me an offer.

Many great memories with this Marauder and she is my Mona Lisa. I know I'll never again have a vehicle as perfect, clean, loaded, and detailed like this but it is time to move on.
I'm the same way. Blue may come out and the original black will probably stay on the lift yet another year.
I need to sell them.

My thoughts exactly. Same car, different name, and the public goes ape-sheiza for one and not the other.
Just like how the Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego struggled with sales between 2005-2007, but in 2008 they used the same body style, added a half-liter of motor displacement, and re-named them the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable, and sales increased. Go figure!

Buick Regal vs. Grand National is like Grand Marquis vs. Marauder.
Same car, one has more power. The power differential between the Regal and Grand National is a lot more substantial vs. another 16 valves. Just saying! Don't bite my head off of anything.

It's all the same crap. Why do you think Ford disintegrated the Mercury brand? And General Motors did the same with Saturn, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Geo, etc. etc. So much overlap that it's kinky!
I would have to say General Motors was the worst with brand overlap than any of the automotive builders, though.

My 2 cents, before I bought my 2nd Marauder recently, I was willing to spend around $25,000.00 on a car, I looked at old cars, muscle cars, late model cars, the whole spectrum . What I wanted was a reliable, unique, comfortable, well optioned, american performance car, the only week point of a Marauder is the lack of low end power, so supercharger was the solution, I could not be more happy. I also keep the car in proper perspective, it's a big heavy car, with a solid rear axle, it will never be a sports car, that's why I'm content to leave well enough alone.

Blaine,
Many of us have owned the CV Sports -- which are still even better than a p71 -- while also owning Marauders, I can tell you without any question, complete different feel, torque, spin, yaw, rake, look, and drive. Mustangs are COOL but too damn little and I'm not sure they are headed in the right direction with their appearance
Let's not forget to mention the direction the price has gone, especially if you want a V-8.
FORD has really gone downhill IMHO......right direction for "Tree Huggers" who like little FWD cars but wrong for folks like me who like bigger RWD cars and some "POWA"!!:shake:
Mustangs are COOL but too damn little and I'm not sure they are headed in the right direction with their appearance......"hey Tom, let's hang some more spoilers on next year's model and slant the headlights more!!" JEEZ-A-LOO!!:shake:
My Marauder and me will stay together from now on I guess since her new motor cost about what she was worth before the motor blew.......PLUS....IT'S REALLY STRONG & FUN NOW!!:burnout:
^^^ LOL tree hugging ppl are catered to very well. There's always Mopar and GM for us real Muscle car lovers. I don't want a mustang either, nice but not for me.

Here are ways to keep you interested
only drive other cars that are worse than the ones you own
Just add to your collection if you can
Buy something way different - an MM will never be a 911 (or Corvette) but a 911 will never be a MM
Makes you appreciate the MM for what it is and allows you to enjoy the sports car for what its worth

Well, Most all know I keep mine covered outside till I choose to drive her---so yeah--the thrill so to speak is gone --especially when I look over and see her under cover---for days and days ---till I get her out and start her up for a day ride to work----or just on the weekend to go loud!!---weather good of course-.
...and then it happens allover again.............
The thought of "WTF"... was I thinking of getting rid of this-----folks still go nuts when they see it at gas fill ups and all over-----so............after backing her in for cover up with a full tank --covered --I say --to her---ok beauty--till next time----a story that just continues to go in circles---.......cause you have to own one to have it and understand..............carry on yall.

You can always sell the Marauder, buy a Police Interceptor for $3,000, and have the same car for a fraction of the price or hype.

I love driving my Marauder and enjoy modding it, but I am paranoid every time I take it out. I'm paranoid that someone else will hit me or back into me or something unfortunate may happen. Also it depends on where I'm driving. I'm not going to take my car downtown and park on the street overnight, so sometimes that limits when we take the Marauder out. Inclement weather is a factor too. When I lived in Virginia and we used to get snow, the Marauder would be parked all winter. I wouldn't take it out in the salt/snow heaven forbid!
I guess what I'm saying is, the thrill of driving it is still there....but only under optimal conditions.

My MM spent 11 winters driving through the salt. Retired this past winter. While it does have a little rust that I have mostly attended to, I can tell you that the corrosion resistance of these cars is excellent.
My son's 2002 Camry is a rust bucket. So much for "superior" Toyota quality.

Mine spent most of its life in Ohio so there's quite a bit of rust underneath it which I'm going to look into relatively soon.
I wish. Instead we are "taking delivery" of another child this summer.

Some areas under the car cannot be stopped from rusting.
Scrape it and spray it with cans of flexible undercoating or truck bed liner.

It's just time plus, the money will be applied to education funds.

Blaine,
Many of us have owned the CV Sports -- which are still even better than a p71 -- while also owning Marauders, I can tell you without any question, complete different feel, torque, spin, yaw, rake, look, and drive. Best auto analogy I can make: Mercedes vs Mercedes AMG; they look the same, and that's about it!
No trample off eh????
Amen, I have a 2004 Crown Vic LX for winter beating and mile eating and always enjoy getting back in the Marauder. The car is a sum of it's parts, the stock suspension allows a good ride and excellent handling for street driving. The car is much more solid in feel more like my old Town cars than a Crown Vic. Having both cars available for back to back use the differences beacome more obvious. Even the seats are so much more comfortable in the Marauder

But, I never lose the thrill when driving my Galaxie.

The seats in my 04 Sport are fairly comfortable, but there isnt a comparison to the Marauders seats. I agree that both cars feel and drive differently enough for me to not get bored with either. Maybe in time that will change.

Now if Ford ever came out with that 2007 Ford Interceptor concept or that 2002 Lincoln Continental Concept, I might reconsider but would be keeping the Marauder also. :-)
Just saw this article. https://autos.yahoo.com/news/lincoln-continental-debuting-york-220059478.html Will probably be a small FWD car I would assume. A rebadged Ford yet again?
Or maybe, just maybe, something else? :-)

They must be hurting in fleet car sales now, hopefully something worthwhile (aka RWD) is being whipped up.

And don't forget to mention 4cyl or if lucky a V6 ecoboost and most likely a hybrid option and $50,000 lol. Something that will compete with the 2016 CTS-V!:banana2:

If your lucky 1.5 semesters. Then there's grad school afterward.
I'd have at least 4 more cars already (and nice ones at that) but wouldn't trade the kids in for anything (well, depends on what mood I'm in)
