Just a quick survey. Now that its getting hot out here my radiator fan comes on. When it comes on is it supposed to sound like a swamp buggy air boat? Its so loud I can hear it from inside the car with the windows up. I think there is a problem with it but wanted to get a few other opinions before I take it in.....

Hey, vegasmarauder! How's everything? I haven't been on here much lately so I'm a bit out of touch with what's been going on . . . but in answer to your question:
When I first bought my Marauder, I noticed a high-pitched whine--very noticable inside the car. My Lincoln-Mercury salesman said, "Oh, that's normal." Then I showed it to another salesperson who worked on the Ford side of the same dealership who ALSO owned a Marauder and HE said, "That's not right!" Only after putting my car side-by-side to another Marauder was the Lincoln-Mercury salesman convinced there was a problem. Since the dealer is quite far from me, I later took it to a Ford dealer very close to my house and told them the whole story. They replaced the entire fan assembly under warranty.

does it happen when the car is turned off and you think the fan kicks on to cool the engine? if so, then it is most likely the air compressor for the rear air bags you are hearing.

On my 6 blade electric fan, I can definitely hear the fan inside the car w/ the windows up. It's NORMAL.
As for the tugboat sound... my fan sounds like a fan.... whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I did custom set the temperatures at which it turns on at low speed and high speed though.
You might want to check the fan mounts to see if anything's broken or vibrating because on the Vics, they're bolted and clipped onto the radiator. If one of the mounts snapped off (Cheap Dupont Zytel Nylon) it can very well cause a vibration. That fan pulls enough air to put water cooled CPU units to shame.
