I installed my "Real" oil press gauge last week and did the voltmeter at the same time. Today, I tackled the chore of adding a trans temp and oil temp gauge to my a-pillar in an Autometer gauge pod.

Everything is done EXCEPT for hooking up the wires to the senders. I cannot find a good spot to route these two tiny wires into the engine bay.

Would someone who has done this PLEASE tell me where they ran their wires?

I know I could have drilled a small hole in the firewall, but I really don't want to do that. There's gotta be someplace that I can fit two 18 gauge wires.

Constable,

I have done numerous emergency equipment installations on CVPIs. I always use the main rubber grommet under the passenger side dashboard to access the engine compartment. If you pull back the carpet a bit, you can see the large rubber grommet, at the edge of the carpet, on the passenger side floorboard. I have always used a sharp penknife and pierced the rubber, in between the wire bundle and the steel firewall. You MUST use caution when doing this, to not damage the wiring that is passing through. I have done over 30 cars, and have never damaged the factory wiring.

Once the wires are in, the gromett almost re-seals itself, but I have occassionally used some silicone to make sure it was water tight.

I just went out and checked my 03 MM, and the grommet is there. If you remove the passenger front door sill plate (just pull straight up on it carefully), remove the rubber door seal from the front of the door, and the small kickplate cover on the right side of the floor (it pulls straight out, towards the back of the car) you can the peel the carpet back and give you some room to work. It appeared that there was some sort of plastic molding that has been added in the MM, partially covering the gromett, but it looked easily removable.

Sorry if this reply was long, but I tried to explain it as easily as I could. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hope it helped! :burnout:
