The hubcaps on my 2004 GMQ LS Ultimate have begun to get white corrosion and crud creeping under the clear finish. The creeping crud has also messed up the charcoal-grey finish around lettering and the waterfall.
IF I could find a set of these metal hubcaps, they'd be ~$60 each, according to my friendly Ford Counterman. www.aintgonnahappen.com (http://www.aintgonnahappen.com)
These are beginning to look really nasty; is there a sane way to refinish these little Frisbees? The clear coating is quite resistant to easy mechanical removal with a scraper, and even if it was easy, scraping it would ruin the fine-grooved texture around the outer edge of the cap.
This is the only hub cap photograph I have, but the caps are a lot nastier-looking than this one looks. Any ideas or friendly advice about refinishing these?
("Buying a Marauder" was attempted, but the idea wouldn't float past the wife-who-hates floor-shifters department... :alone:)
Thanks!!
