Found an old rusted 8 Cylinder with a 4 barrel intake sitting out in the woods for 10 years uncovered the other day with a friend. The block has C7ME on it.
Could be several different engines i know, 427 most likely. Sill has the heads and springs on it along with the oil pan and filter.
He tells me I can have it for free, just gotta get it out of the woods.
Something in that condition worth all the trouble and money to rebuild or not really??? What do you guys think? How many bolts do you think I'll break trying to take off everthing????

To rebuild, probably not. The heads might be usable, maybe the block?? It might be better suited to being turned into a coffee table. But hey, it'd give you a cool story!
There's some engine burried in my uncle's backyard, we can see the oil pan sticking up. Been there for the past 20 years, so it's probably a mess on the inside. But same deal, it's there, we've just gotta dig it up.

Found on another FORD site:
The C7ME casting ID on the block outer wall molds appears on 352, 360, 390, 410 and 428 blocks in Ford, Mercury and Ford light truck FE applications.
It has no particular significance except that it means you have a 1967 model year or later block.
The C7ME marking was only used for a year or two, pretty much gone by the end of '69 model year.
If it IS a side oiler 427 block.....

Dare to dream ;)
you'd see the side main bolts and oil passage bulge (bulge he'he!)
67 - 69 anything FE.
I'd get the head and intake casting numbers and dates = closer to what it might be...
does it have rocker shafts? are the rocker arms adjustable?
if the 4 barrel intake is original, I'm guessing cast iron on a 390, maybe from an S code car.

If its a FE motor it will have 352 on the front of the block on the right side above the water pump bolts. The factory intake weighs 90 pounds alone. Have fun getting that motor out of the woods. And as far as to figuering out what size it is will be had just from looking at it.
But, the 428 crank can be spotted just from the looks. It will have a extra set of counter weights on it. And that's worth money.
If it's an FE, and if it's a factory 4V, it will be a 390, 410, or 428. (You can tell it's an FE if the valve cover goes over the head) If it has Ford valve covers you can scratch the 410 (Mercury only). Not likely to be a 427, but there are still surprises out there (look for the cross bolt heads at the bottom of the block). I would take a free 390 or 428 no matter how long it was sitting out there.

Don't forget the 352 with a factory 4 barrel... in 1964 full-size Ford cars, and maybe 1965. My memory is beginning to fade after 50 years.

I didn't forget, but it won't be a 352 with a C7 number, which leaves the others.

Not that kind of tranny, hahaha. Still havent gotten it been working almost everyday and trying to get this super deluxe tree stand sky box lookin thing built so I might can bust one next year.
I know if I got it i would have to soak it for days in something like PB, and most likely the block would have to be re-machined after it was cleaned up so i do plan to get it when we can. Gonna put it on a piece of plywood and drill two holes and run a chain through and try and drag it, its a long way though.
Thanks guys for the input as always. I appreciate it.
