Hi Guys,

Used to live on the forum here, but haven't posted in a long time. Did extensive searches on this question and was amazed there wasn't more on it, so I'm probably missing something obvious.

My '03 MM just hit 100K, so I got the Ford PCV valve and was going to R&R it. Took the two nuts off the housing and pulled the 90 degree hose off the tube, but I cannot get the valve out of the assembly. Even though it is tight as hell I figured I would drop the tube into hot water to get the top part of the old PCV out, but what is driving me nuts is how to get the "crankcase ventilation retainer" with the green O-ring off the PCV valve.

I've done everything on this car from installing the underbody lighting kit to changing out the cursed blower motor speed control (behind the DR rear-engine cooling mod!) and fixing the junky compass soldering points, but this one has me stumped.

Thanks for any info, and if you know of one, please let me know of a faster way to get that tube off the top of the valve as well!

Appreciate the help.

Norm

The valve twists off. Save the elbow since the old one doesn't come with one and its very hard to find a replacement.

Ah, of course. I have to get it out of the upper hose first. Doh! Trying to do it backwards. Thanks very much for the quick response.

I'm going to boil some water and drop it in there and see if I can pull the valve out of the hose without wrecking it.

Thanks again.

And you meant to say "since the new one doesn't come with one," correct? ;)

Actually, I don't know why you couldn't get a short section of hose and a couple of clamps and bypass the OEM part if you had to, but I'll try not to screw it up.

Thanks again.

You will want to save that factory elbow, a hose will sweat the oil. And the rubber elbows are garbage. Good news is you can still get the plastic ones from the dealer for just a few bucks if you do mess it up. A heat gun helped get mine off.

Thanks very much. Seems obvious now; I put a wrench on the valve and twisted off the crankcase port, and then after much hot water soaking managed to pull the old valve out. NOW the challenge is getting in the new one LOL!

Thanks again for the great input.

Best,

Norm

I bought everything from Tasca, it is all available. Then I cut the old rubber.

I had a real hard time taking mine off until I tried the heat gun and it worked.
