What are yalls thoughts on using this product? My car has 92K miles on it and would like to add some additives. Or do yall have a better product to use for both engine and fuel?

Consider what got it to the current 92,000 miles.

As for additives .....

Why do you feel the need to add additives? What issue are you trying to resolve?

...and for the record, Z-MAX is snake-oil in a major way.

What they said....

92K... it's also broken in!

just thought it would be a good idea to go the extra mile on preventative maintenence

No major car manufacturer recommends any additional additives other than what is specd in the owners manual. As long as your choice of fluids meets the spec your OK.

I used Z-max on my old Crown Vic a long time ago. Didn't do any harm but didn't notice any difference.

Bruton Smith put some oil in a bottle......advertised it like crazy and made millions of $$$'s with a product that does ABSOLUTELY nothing but add more oil to your crank case while lightening your wallet!!:shake:

Use premium fluids and save your $$$'s for cool stuff!!

just thought it would be a good idea to go the extra mile on preventative maintenenceAdding worthless products to your gas tank isn't "preventative maintenance". Use good gas and good oil and leave the miracle-in-a-can on the shelf.

We've had E10 in MA for decades and it's a non-issue.

If you think your injectors could use a little cleaning, Regane by Gumout and Techron by Chevron have been proven to be beneficial, but that's about it.

Years ago there were always stories of companies that treated the motor with their additives. Then they drained the oil, removed the oil pan and drove around for miles with no issues. There was even one where they put sand in the motor. Not sure what ever happened with all that hoopla.

the best thing you can do for these cars is change the oil, if you want to add a fex oz's of oil to your gas tank every once in a while, that wouldn't hurt either. I use lucas fuel treatment every month

I use Lucas Fuel Treatment as well. My SOTP meter seems to find it to work in the Suburban and Marauder, but maybe its just in my mind.

You don't need additives,
All ya need is sea foam in the tank once a year
&
Royal Purple Oil 5W 20 or 5W 30 with a good synthetic oil filter & with the highest grade gas locally & the car will be fine.

Redline sl1 fuel system cleaner works best, techron is 2nd, and gumout with regane is 3rd for getting rid of ethanol related issues. Lucas and seafoam do nothing for ethanol issues, however do still clean carbon deposits decently. One of the strongest cleaners for carbon deposits though is berrymans b12 chemtool. Research and msds sheets are an amazing tool.
Marvel mystery oil along with tcw3 smokeless 2 stroke engine oil, did nothing for me, no increased power or gas mileage. For reference, im driving 120 miles a day, and used both of these independently and mixed together with no results, for atleast 10 fill ups, and at different mix ratios.

I think that one was Dura-lube. I remember a lot of those commercials. A lot of them are still around. You can still find them at your local auto parts stores, Wally World, etc. I tried a lot of them but didn't notice any difference (but I didn't run the car without oil, lol).

I did however get a rebate check (like $1) from Z-max because they were in a class action law suit for false advertising about making your engine metal "wet".

Non of the oil additives makes you "feel it". It's what is does inside the engine, treating the metal for reduced wear on cold starts. That's about all they do.

If you really really want to "feel it" you will. Maybe it's the lighter wallet that you "feel"

Don't even need Royal Purple.... any high quality oil will do... preferably synthetic or worst case semi-synthetic.

I run Mobile 1 0w30 and a Motorcraft FL820S.

I run Royal Purple or Mobil 1. Depends on my mood and bank account. I'll probably go back to Mobil 1 after I use my last 6 quarts of RP. I don't bother with additives anymore, other than injector cleaner on occasion.

When I had my engine apart for the Eaton conversion, it was clean as a whistle with 147k on the clock. Of course the intake manifold was black and grungy.

I run injector cleaner every 3 months and Seafoam the intake once a year. Will be interesting to see what the intake looks like since I installed the catch can.

I've seen pics of intake manifolds after the Seafoam treatment. They are clean near the throttle body and that's about it.

I'm hoping it's all clean with the addition of the 42 Draft Designs catch can.

Are you going to remove the lid and clean it out first?

Yes, have a spacer to add. I know, I know.... spacer won't give you much, but I got it for free.

Royal purple and 93 NO ethanol fuel. These two things increased my miles per gallon.
For once "you get what you pay for" comes true !

The only fuel treatment I know that eliminates issues with ethanol gas is VP Racing Madditives " Fuel Stabilizer with Ethanol Shield" (http://mad.vp-sef.com/index.php/fuel-stabilizer-with-ethanol-shield)

My friend from South Carolina is dead balls accurate in his view.

I live right around the corner from Bruton Smiths largest Ford Dealership..its my OEM parts store and often where my cars/trucks get inspected.

They of course promote Z-Max , but having worked there many years ago. I know all the Good mechanics that work there...not a one I've ever spoken to uses Z-max or any other supposed miracle cure/preventative in their cars , Ford products or not.

Being in Aircraft maintenance and being an owner of 7 Ford/Mercury products I can say one thing with certainty...There is no substitute for regular fluid changes with OEM Spec products...and there damn sure isn't anything called Mechanic in a Can or Bottle either.

Save your hard earned money for real repairs when they do come up.

I've used that product in one of my 68 vintage Torino GT's...my Holley Carb got ruined despite that product. I have never seen such effects on a Carburetor before.

I know this is about modern MM's , but fuel is fuel and fuel systems to a degree are still pretty much the same in theory and material make up.

I go out of my way and pay a bit more to stay ethanol free in any of the cars/trucks I own that are going to be around for ever.

I am a beleiver in Fuel Injector Cleaner about once every forth tank.
