There keeps being talk about "Gods Head" vale caps on the early Marauders. My car was built in May. The dealer signed for the car missing the valve caps. Is there ANYBODY out there that has or has even seen these mystery caps?

My car didn't have the 'Godshead' caps just plain chrome ones.

I ordered the one the parts catalog lists for Marauder(3W3Z-1700-AA
retail $23.85 each!) and what I got was the whole stem. The rubber one with the chrome 'shield' and the same plain chrome cap as what's on the car.

Maybe the 'Godshead' cap is an urban legend

This was the first, and last, I heard of Godshead valve stem caps here. Back then, there were only one or two remarks posted about them, and this post seemed to end that discussion.

i believe someone confused the center cap with valve cap and the legend began with that misunderstanding.

No, my original caps had godsheads etched into them and they were
larger and rounded with scallopped edges.

Mine were stolen last fall. I had no idea they were special until well after they were stolen.

I bought replacement chrome ones (exactly like the new MMs come with now) for $2.95 for a set of 4.

No Urban Legend, but apparently very uncommon.

Old post coming back here but I was wondering if anyone has the part number for the caps only? Mine "dissapeared" recently.

Johnny - where did you buy yours?

Thanks

My MM, purchased in early Aug of 02 has the 5 sided rounds caps...........untill I had some body work done, and the Ford guy couldn't even understand what I was trying to tell him. He was flabergasted by the fact that I wanted chrome valve covers, not the slip over plastic thingys that I wound up with. BEWARE OF BODY SHOPS !!!

Mine came from the dealer with black plastic ones. I have been meaning to stop by the autoparts store to pick up some better looking chrome ones.

We get them stolen off new cars in stock all the time. Ford only supplies the entire valve stem with the cap. We buy them from an Auto Parts Store. RAY

It is a little known fact that most valve stem caps have feet! Trust me, I found out the hard way!

I bought an inexpensive set ( less than $2.00- chrome) and stored th originals in the glove compartment.

I picked up some chrome round caps as replacements for now but do still want to have the originals on hand for special occasions. Hopefully I can find a better way to replace the originals than buying all new valve stems.'

Advance has chrome valve caps for 1.99 Even if I have to buy several more sets, no big deal.

That's what I did. Since no one knows what a Marauder is, no one has even noticed they aren't quite "correct" :)

i believe someone confused the center cap with valve cap and the legend began with that misunderstanding. They do exist, I've saw them in a photo when I was searching for my '03 MM.
It was a photo of a partial wheel showing the cap.

It was raised to give a 3-dimensional look. Very cool! I have spent hours trying to find the picture again but no luck.

I suspect they may be a reproduction or N.O.S. Mercury. Maybe not from a MM but certainly a Merc.

Still holding out hope to fine them!
