For a 2004, who makes the best crankshaft (manufacturer, model #)? Ideally, I would like to use Premium Grade (Para-Pure) Timken alloy steel (billet). Needs to handle 500 hp.
Callies Ultra Billet (http://www.callies.com/crankshafts/ultra-billet-crankshafts/)
Scat (http://www.callies.com/crankshafts/dragonslayer/dragonslayer-small-block-ford/)
Eagle (http://www.eaglerod.com/)
Crower (http://www.crower.com/crankshaft-custom-v8-cylinder-call-for-price.html)

Way more information needed from you...
For this motor - http://www.roushyatesparts.com/ford-racing-5-0L-shortblock-p/frp-m-6009-a46x.htm
3.750-inch stroke forged steel crankshaft with 8 bolt flywheel pattern
5.850-inch forged steel "H" beam rods with ARP 2000 bolts
Money and time is no object. Example, Scat will source the billet steel from either UK or Canada (no China made anything) with a 12 week lead time.
What other information is needed, please?
* Rod big-end width

If you are keeping with the supplied rods and pistons (or at least their specs) with the Aluminator, your crank stroke and journal specs will need to remain the same.
Callies makes a stout crank.
It's your money, but I'm curious, - why? Broken cranks falling out of 800+ hp mod motors?

Understood about "crank stroke and journal specs will need to remain the same".
I would like a crankshaft capable of handling 500 hp. I realize a lightweight billet ($2500 +) is overkill. But I understand the lightweight crankshafts may yield a few more ponies.
As always, the engine builder will make the call; not me. To date, many of the suggestions herein have been used by the engine builder. So, I keep asking.

Ponies, maybe from less rotating mass, but what you'd notice more is faster rpm's. I ran GRP billet rods on an Eagle crank, Ross pistons and that 474 cu.in. revved like a small block chebby!
Did it make more power than the previous Eagle crank, Eagle rod, JE piston motor? Nope. Not on the dyno.
Did it last longer? Nope. Too much nitrous hurt it, just like any other assembly.
I'd stick with forged Eagle crank right the way an Aluminator comes assembled. Guys pushing WAY more than 500 rwhp for a long time on said short block.
Money that could be spent on your fuel system, trans - supporting mods to keep your 500hp reliable.

Well, then there is no point to the sexy lightweight crankshaft. Thank you for sharing the real world experience.

I honestly don't understand how someone pays 6K for a shortblock , questions the build quality , instead of returning a brand new shortblock , you completely tear it down to rebuild a brand new engine???? this makes no sense whatsoever!

Could of bought a Boss 5.0 block, bored and stroked it for around the same price and yield more power.

I think you should ask a different forum because help from here is over if you act like a ass to members who actually contribute. If your engine builder gives you no help your build will be on fire in a couple months.

You know ill just say what everyone else is thinking , you are by far the most "CLUELESS" member on this board , you have no sense of what to buy for a project that wayyyyyy over your head! you then attempt to do the engine builders job by asking simple questions you should know for your self but instead you compete for "ASKHOLE" of the year! by being lazy and hoping to be spoon fed a 600hp car! isn't going to happen sir! you need to stay far away from any engine! money may be of no concern to you , but you still won't achieve your goal because your too ignorant to learn for your self! In all seriousness an OEM Marauder crank could easily handle 500 HP. So to answer your question on which company would work? Any.

Thank you. Hopefully Ford Racing replaces the crankshaft and I will be good to go. I can't help feeling astounded quality control did not catch these obvious problems.

The crankshaft was not the correct, forged part specified!

Curious - are they sending your shop the crank you chose, at no cost?
Since you should have been supplied an Eagle forged stroker crank, sending you that is no cost to them, you already paid for it.
Are you being compensated for the engine rebuild labor? That is the hurtful part, and if any warranty - will it still be valid?
that sucks on Ford.
If all I was getting in compensation was a crank, I'd go with a Callies Dragonslayer. A step up from Eagle, making an awesome short block.

Thank you chief455 for the tip about Callies. I forwarded your recommendation to the engine builder.
In the conference call with Ford Racing last Friday, we outlined all three major problems:
1. wrong crankshaft
2. piston measurements showing out of spec for top-dead-center and dish diameters widely varying
3. Rods had 'gunk' in them
Photos for 2 and 3 are on another thread, "Replacement Performance Engine", page 5.
The engine builder made it clear to Ford, all three major parts are not the quality or caliber paid for and expect Ford to address. Ford to provide new, proper replacements for all three components.

Personally, I would settle for no less than a new rotating assembly, and monetary compensation for the labor to rebuild a re manufactured engine.
Unacceptable, and what else lurks in that motor? Crap assembly, what about block prep?
Crap in the oil passages?
When the pistons come out, will the be cylinder walls be tapered? Will the crank main journals be aligned? Will the head surfaces be flat?
I'd have zero faith in that short block. Zero.
On second thought, I'd send that crap back, full refund, and build my own motor.
Have been for over 30 years, and this is the reason why. Buying someone else s garbage, and building it over. :mad2:

I completely disagree , if you buy an assembled short block , and then decide your not happy with it, you simply return it UNTOUCHED! you don't completely tear it down and then cry foul ball! if i sold a assembled short block , i wouldn't accept anything back , except the same UNTOUCHED motor that was sold!

The block has already been to Livernois (http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/pages/Services.html) for CnC work, exhaust port modification, cylinder wall prep. Next is sonic/magnaflux testing. If the block is sound, the worst case outcome will be ordering all new crankshaft, pistons and custom height rods. The Ford parts will all be sold on eBay.
If the block is bad, I will seek a full refund plus costs for Livernois and labor with my engine builder. We will seek a new block and start all over!

Have Livernois put a polished balanced stroker crank in it, perhaps knife endged with Livnois crank scaper - composite I think. They have their own custom stroker cranks.
I'd get a credit from ford. Perhaps just have Livernois return it for credit back to Ford Racing and get the below shortblock - have Livernois do the whole thing. Then ship to your local engine installer shop.
