View Full Version : Heat's On, Warm Inside, AC Lines Freezing Cold

Last night I was driving around in the Chicagoland area, and my girlfriend was cold, so I turned the heat on. (It was 67 out, so I didn't have it on at all before that.) When I parked the car I opened the hood just to take a look around, and make sure everything was good. Well, the A/C lines were freezing cold, and wet! So I turned it all off, drove home, and when I parked the car again I opened the hood. The A/C lines were fine. Is this normal, and I haven't noticed it before?

I haven't noticed anything a miss. Temp gauge goes where it needs to be when warmed up, and not any higher. Overflow is to the cold fill line, when cold. Heat blows warm in any setting. Blower works good, and I can hear the blend door actuator opening, and closing.

Today I did a EATC test, and no codes came up. Turned the heat on in every setting, and it worked fine, but the A/C lines got super cold again. I Switched to A/C, and it blew out cold air, and the lines were still cold. (This is when I assume they'd be cold!) No work has been done here recently! The only thing that I've done, (Last year) is put a cap that was missing on the A/C line. (Closer to the firewall) Does anybody know why it's doing this? Is this normal?

Are you using defrost? That uses ac to dry the air.

Yes, I was using the defrost. I did not know that it used the a/c. Plus, I didn't look at the lines when it was not in defrost. I learned something new today! So I guess I was getting worried over nothing. Thanks for your help.

The climate control uses the a/c compressor in any mode except for "vent"

Huh! I've never noticed the lines freezing cold before. I mean, there was condensation on the hoses, n freezing cold!

Depends on outside temp and humidity.
