i went out of town for a week and took her car to save miles on my car...let her drive it and i forgot to tell her before i left to put 93 octane gas in it when she fills it up...welp i forgot :mad2: not her fault. My question is am i being overly paranoid and sensitive about this? i had her go to Autozone and put some octane booster. I wont rip on it until i can refill her up with 93. Everything wil be ok right?

Yes you'll be fine for a one time mistake. Good call on the octane boost.

If you repeatedly use 87 = trouble :alone:

Could always siphon most of it out and refill with 93

Just run the gas out with some city/country road regular driving. At the MPG our cars get, that won't take long. don't go below a 1/4 tank because low fuel can uncover the pump which uses gasoline for cooling.

The so-called "octane booster" you put in will do absolutely nothing.

When they claim it boosts the octane by "4-7 points", they actually mean 4-7 TENTHS...meaning you just raised your tank of 87 to somewhere between 87.4 and 87.7 octane.

Drive it VERY gently and refill with the highest octane you can find when it gets to half...then do that again.

I occasionally run 87 octane (due to premium availability) in mine and haven't noticed any pinging or performance loss. Don't worry about it and don't drive the crap out of it.

Since we are on the subject of octane, will racing fuel hurt the oxygen sensors?

When Hurricane Sandy destroyed my area of New Jersey, we were lucky to even get 87 octane. Just don't do hard acceleration, avoid going up steep hills, and you should be fine. After you get the tank run down to 1/4, put in some 93-94 and take a long drive at speed.

Yes,Race fuel is leaded.

That's what I thought. So what's the best way to increase fuel points if the octane boost is of really no help?

93-94 octane.

Lots of good advice above. It's really not a big deal. Please let her live another day. ;)

Highest we have around here is 93 and that's all I run anyway. Just curious

Torco accelerator is the only additive that actually works with raising octane.

It depends on what racing fuel you get , i use VP 109 octane oxygenated which is unleaded.

VP Racing Fuels has a Madditive called Octanium that can boost octane up by 8 points. It's gotten good reviews.

Toluene and Xylene will raise octane rating the best!!

VP Racing Fuels has a Madditive called Octanium that can boost octane up by 8 points. You mean 8 numbers, not points.

From an Engine Builder magazine article on Octanium:

"...the performance chemical category has suffered in the past from exaggerated hype or misleading product claims,” said Bruce Hendel. “For example, many octane boost products claim increases in terms of octane ‘points,’ when a point is nothing more than 1/10th of an octane ‘number.’ Using points allows them to report gains with bigger numbers, but it’s misleading to customers who don’t recognize the difference between a point and a number.”

This is the crux of what I was saying in my earlier reply. If the increase is given in points, don't waste your money.

Sooooo jealous as the only "race fuel" around here is 100! Which Jeff said is a joke at best. I'd have to drive an hour and a half to the track to purchase 110 or C16.. Or order it by the 5 or 55 and get bent over on the shipping. I should have built her for E85.

Before I supercharged, I ran 87 for quite a while and noticed nothing, nada, zip. No pinging or performance issues whatsoever.

^^^^ This ^^^^ if your going to buy race fuel, this will not kill O2 sensors.

The Volvo Club of America tested several Octane Boosters.
"Lucas was one of 2 that worked.
When mixed in a 100:1 ratio of fuel to additive the Lucas Octane Boosted averaged a RON reading of 101.4 and a MON rating of 91.8. Giving Lucas in a concentration of 100:1 an AKI of 96.6 when mixed with 93 pump fuel. With a ratio of 100:1 this make Lucas the most concentrated additive.

When used an a concentration of 50:1 103.1 RON was achieved with a MON of 93.5 giving it a AKI of 98.4.

To date Lucas octane booster is the only booster tested that had significant results with only one bottle in the tank. One bottle is enough to make 10 gallons of 96.6 octane out of 93."
