View Full Version : NOT STARTING

I posted a few weeks ago about my black, not starting. I jumped it, and it started.

I have had a few more instances where the car will not attempt to turn over. Foot on brake, foot off brake. Jiggle the park lever (gently) to make sure it is in Park. Battery is only a year old, and seems absolutely fine.

Just to be clear--turn key and nada.

I tried to serch this topic before asking. IT SEEMS LIKE there is a switch going bad, either behind the brake, or inter-related to brake and park lever. If it turns over, it starts on first spark and runs clean (like a demon!). But when it doesn't, it doesnt even turn over at all - not one click- nothing.

HELP! It almost left me stranded today twice (yes the second time is on me folks :) ).

BTW at Ford Parts department today the general manager was looking my car over, and I told him to go ahead and hop in--he fought the temptation, untill I insisted. He couldn't believe it--looked underhood--asked if I wanted to sell. THANK GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDNESS it started there...

HELP!

The brake switch or brake switch connector could be bad.

OK THANKS a ton guys!

I went out this AM into the garage, and got down into the footwell to check it out (I am not so spry), and simply felt around the switch to make sure the wires were attached, and that everything appeared in order. When I got up and out--the brake lights were on--all by them selves! I then wiggeled the wires some more, and the brake lights went out. I will order a new switch, and install it next weekend.

Any advice or tips? I did watch a few video's, etc... it seems pretty straight forward.

Thanks again. It is always REASSURING knowing that you all are here, and willing to assist. Please know that your replys to us "not as technical--but good with a wrench and can fix things" folks really help us a lot.
