I have a standard black interior.
I need to paint the little piece behind the door handle.
I picked up a few at the junk yard.
What color code paint should I order?

Interior paint from ford is no longer available for our dark charcoal interior. I've heard that SEM has a pretty close one that matches pretty good

Also Colorbond is another brand with interior paint. I have no personal experience with either, some like SEM others Like Colorbond

I used this interior paint when I painted my steering wheel when I upgraded to a factory wood wheel. I was only able to find it with black leather so I used this paint to make it dark charcoal like ours. It matched perfectly.

That paint is for vinyl but they also have it for hard plastic.

Can't beat your post. Also, another member did this. It could be the same product but I haven't checked. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/02/d6581b58e9803b3e9744c56b179fb2 60.jpginfo

FYI ... The Ford Motorcraft interior paint # is M4JZ-19M547-4149H (trim code W - Dark Charcoal).

Since 2010 Ford Motorcraft no longer provide interior paint.

IF you're lucky you may find a dealership that has some NOS, NIB stock.

What part number SEM did you try? I was told to use SEM 17013 NOT what was suggested by marauderjack If you search 17013 and marauder you get this

I want to paint this tan steering wheel to the color of the factory marauder interior.
A member here said to use colorbond p# 327 and it looks really close, here is the thread, very close match

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=101731

amazon does have it, summit doesnt list it.

I can get sem paint locally, has anyone here tried 17013? I dont want to wait, tired of waiting on parts this week

Im looking to do a leather steering wheel so it may be a tad lighter in color vs the factory gauge pod. I have a spare pod and ill put the two up close, really wished i could buy 327 locally, but SEM seems to be more common. probably not as close match..... grrrrrr........

I need to paint a lot of my trim. I'm also interested in the final verdict.

What trim are you looking to paint? i'm looking for a steering wheel paint that wont flake etc...
There is a duplicolor paint that's a good match for trim its DAP 1692
Its a primer, lol, yes but its a perfect match for "trim" on these cars, ill do my switch plates in this.

CV sport and MM have the same OEM paint code KW dark charcoal

There are a lot of threads here on that dap 1692, its a good match for the console and doors.
I know 327 looks great from color bond on a steering wheel, theres pics here recently. Hopefully we can figure it out.
Its probably buick grand national grey
LOL;)

FYI
I just bought DAP 1692 duplicolor primer that mm.ner said was a good match for our gauge pods
It was horrible. 20 shades too lite, I also bought SEM 17013 as most said it was the color, some said 17083 was real close too.

17083 is pretty close for steering wheel color, I must admit that our wheel color is darker than the other greys in our interior

Stay away from the dap 1692 primer to be a match, 10 bucks out the window

Sem paints is very easy to use, but I have tried several colors and haven't had a decent enough match to Dark Charcoal. I tried 17303, 17083, neither didn't look right. I ordered Colorbond 327 and that paint matched much closer. Below is my 2004 Crown Victoria Sport with dark charcoal interior with added chrome interior door handles and a wood grain steering wheel both painted with Colorbond 327. It's close enough for me, especially because I've tried enough other point colors that this is the closest match.

Update on SEM 17013

Did a tan steering wheel to grey, as you can see the grey plastic came out darker and shiny vs the leather

CoreyM75 what did you paint on the door panel? The chrome door pull? It looks too lite. lol. Your wheel looks great, but the pull is way off in color

So is 17013

The door handles were painted with sem 17303 first then with the Colorbond 327 over it. The door handles were a light tan color and the steering wheel was a darker tan. I think the color differences is due to the original color of the parts.

Bulldog makes a plastic surface prep in a spray can that works great.

I ordered a new front valance with the driving light cutouts for my truck and had to paint it from gray to black. I used the Bulldog prep spray and a good quality can of black spray paint. It still looks great 8 years later and hasn't chipped or peeled.

This first pic is the gauge pod painted with colorbond 327 displayed next to the passenger side switch bezel that I used a combination of Hot Rod Primer base coat with a misting of Crayola Charcoal over it (before I found the 327). As you can see they almost match but the bezel came out a little lighter and bluer. lower pic is the original unpainted driver's side bezel against the same gauge pod. Closer match but still not perfect. Looks almost like we need a light flat black

As you can see below the pod is a little light and a little bluer.... but over all pretty close.

That's what saves us, enough different colors that as long as the color is close it looks fine. The leather on the seats is different then the door panels which is different than the vinyl and that varies from the plastic. To me it also looks like the texture dash vinyl is a different grey than the smooth plastic on the sides of the dash. That could be the texture reflecting the light differently but in the end I feel the 327 is close enough.

As these cars age, there no longer is a perfect match for all of the interior bits. It sucks, but unless all of the hard surfaces were painted the same color at the same time, there isn't going to be a uniform match.

pretty much how I feel, I reupholstered the console cover, sprayed the pod, cleaned and repaired the switches on the driver side and soaked my seats with leather conditioner three days in a row. The car looks like its a year old again (in the interior). Will work on other door switches and headlamp switch this weekend. I also cleaned the steering wheel switches, not sticky and they look way better.

Now to plan the exterior.

This is the passenger rear door switch bezel I painted last night. Looked great (in the dark) but as you can see it still looks a bit too light and a bit too blue. I tried four other plastic, bumper and primer flat blacks, all too dark - definitely black not a grey. What might work is paining the plastic black first and misting with Colorbond 327. I think I'm going to order SEM 15303 Graphite and see how that turns out. In the end, this isn't too bad. It is what it is. Try color matching a 1970 Old's Pearl white interior - impossible

I sprayed all of my '80 Z28's interior from white and silver to blood red. I used mixed paint in quarts from the local auto supply house tinted to the proper color and shot them all hanging in my garage. Added seat covers and new carpet and the results were better than factory because as mentioned, this all got painted at the same time with the same quarts.

Are these items painted with cans holding up good?

so far, we will see. That's what I thought too, maybe mist all of it. Take the door panels off, clean them with Naptha, spray vinyl prep and then color coat with a mist coating to make it all match.

Most 60s/70s repo plastic parts now only come in black as well. fortunately in a convertible some parts are black no matter the Pearl interior

Here are side by side comparisons of paint options

Left is an original
Middle is SEM 17013
Right is colorbond 327

In different light they look the same. In bright light the Colorbond is a little bluer and a bit light. The SEM is just a hair lighter than the original on the left but definitely a very close match. Funny thing is in real life (not these photos) the SEM is a closer match in these images the colorbond almost looks better - but IMHO you can't go wrong with either, pretty close

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=44 734&stc=1&d=1476373372

Below in different order, different light, different background, thus you can tell there is a bit more of a difference.

Left SEM
middle original
Right Colorbond
