View Full Version : Dragging shuttering feel in reverse

When I put my MM in reverse it rolls fine. If I brake in a straight line in reverse it is fine. If I am turning in reverse and lightly breaking it has this shaking shuttering feel with some noise like the brake pads are not happy working backwards. Kind of a clunking noise like pulling a chair or table out on a less than smooth floor (trying to be descriptive) I checked it out and all appears to be right with the brakes. Pads have decent life and no visible breaks or failures.

It's just weird it only happens when the wheel isn't perfectly straight.

I'm thinking this may be a rear gear issue? Thoughts?

Did you look at the emergency brakes?

E brake looked fine as well.

Could the traction lock in the rear end be chattering when turning while backing up? If so maybe a change of fluid and the proper additive would help.

Did you actually pull the wheel and rotor off on both sides to inspect the e brake assembles?

While checking the e brake, pull on the axle shafts and see if they move. If they look fine, it could be the differential clutches/spider gears.
