I have been searching to see if this problem was discussed on another thread, but had no luck. So here is my problem.
I have what appears to be rust showing thru on the lip under the rear window in the well near the trunk hinge. Under that rough looking finish on the seam. Anyone else with this problem? Did your dealer resolve or refuse?
The rest of my MM looks great. The silver paint looks great.
Thanks.

RUST! That's terrible. Please let us know what happens. Do you think that your car sat at the Canada plant with salt splashed on it? Do you live in a place where they salt the roads?
Hope you get action from FLM on this.
Best Regards,
David

It wasn't there when I took delivery back in October, '03. They do salt the roads here in NY, but I think that this is related to how the seam was treated. I'll have to post some pics.

Under the seam caulk? If it is take it back so they know you have a problem and they can take care of it before it starts to leak. Take it back anyways tho.

Just posted some pics of the r*st. I'm not trying to make anybody cry, but I was wondering if the rough finish of the seam sealer is typical.

Which side is this and where exactly are you looking at the seam ?
Is it under the quarter panel or just under the trunk lid,
where the quarter panel meets the rear window deck ?

On the right side just under the trunk likd where the 1/4 panel meets the rear window deck.

It looks a little rougher than mine (black). I know the seams are rough, it makes drying that area difficult, but your looks patched to me. Like they gave it some extra compound before painting.

That looks like a 5 year old laid in the caulk  , take it back, have them do it right.

The service advisor at my Ford dealer agrees. I stopped by today and he said give him 24 hours notice and the body shop will fix it. And only it.

Well they took two days to spray some paint on it. I just came in from comparing the results of their hadiwork to the before photo. They must think I am some kind of f*^king idiot.
I don't even want to waste my time with these guys. I am going to Mercury direct.
I was at the service desk when the SA was reviewing a customer survey online. I asked if they (the surveys) are important. He said they live and die on them. Dead man walking is how I feel right now.
