View Full Version : 4.10 rear gear

Hi all, I hope I'm posting in the right place, as I couldn't find a thread dealing specifically with rear gears.

My question is this: by ditching the factory 3.55, and going to a 4.10, is the car going to still be highway-friendly (using stock size tires)? Once all the mods are done, I'd still like to take it on longer trips. I calculated about a 17-18% increase in ratio, so will it now be cruising at a strenuous RPM, or is it just a moderate increase? Hope this isn't a redundant question. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

You'll need a tune to run 4.10 and rpm will be around 2500 at 70 mph Highway gas mileage prolly 21 mpg max. Not sure what the km equivalent is

If there isn't a STICKY on the 4:10 gear swap and the results something is very wrong here.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help.

I may have missed the sticky, so apologies if I did. I looked, and didn't see it, but may have missed it.

I have a brand new set of FR 4.10s - ring and pinion - if you are interested...I think I paid $200 for em...

Repeated ONE more time..............

Swapping to 4.10's will result in:

1 - 2 MPG decrease

Engine will turn about 200RPM faster at 60 - 70 MPH

You WILL need a tuner and a tune so your tranny doesn't go nuts and your speedo will read incorrectly

You will be AMAZED by the transformation.

BTW... the Marauder was supposed to have 4.10's from the factory, but the bean counters needed that extra 1 MPG for CAFE.

I'm having 4.10's put in right now, I'll post when I know more about the changes in the car. My Marauder has a cai, tune, rear cats deleted, resonator delete tips, and a few other little mods, but not a power adder.

I'm sure that the other posts are on point based on over a decade of experience with that mod.

Past 2500 rpm the gas goes a lot faster. Got 3.73's and at 80mph it spins at 2500 rpm. I was able to get 23 MPG at 80mph with 3.73 - took the MM on many long trips, including cross country. I also have a performance torque converter...

A BIG + 1 on contacting Marty (Mo's Speed Shop) for a 4:10 tune. He knows Marauders and is a real expert in the field. Many of us got our tunes from him. Highly recommended.

I'm going there in Aug,Atlanta is not that far but worth the trip if you want the job done right.
Going to Louisville,KY my MM was turning 2,500 RPM at 75 MPH or 120 KMS.
It pulled hard when passing on the Interstates,I got about 550 miles to a tank, but I never go lower then a quarter tank.
I will test it before & after the cam degreeing in Aug.

P.S Make sure the shop has a micrometer to install the gears. Also using a Ford Racing Diff cover & 3 litres of RP oil will give the 410s a long life.

550 miles? Or km per tank. 550 miles like over 30 mpg

I will check it again when going to Woodward/Atlanta & back home in Aug.Round trip is 3,676 miles or 5,915 km with some touring.

Sorry to derail :o

4.10s are such a huge improvement over stock. Driving my mom's stock mm back to back with mine I can really tell the difference in normal acceleration. I think you'll be very happy with the decision.

I believe everyone that's done the 4.10 swap has not regretted it....

My 4.30's were only at 2,050 RPM at 80. My 4.10's are just under 2,000 IIRC. But mine doesn't really fit in to this conversation LOL

^^ so yeah, just get a nice 6 speed, driveshaft and 4.30 gears and new rear control arms, and you'll be all set.

:)

There is a 3.90 ratio also available - you really need a tune for any gear change really.

I run up and down the 401 every weekend, from Toronto to Windsor, my Marauder has 410's and stock BFG's i don't really notice that much of a difference, compared to my stock Marauder.as far as gas milage goes, I just drive a little slower. You're going to love the 410's, with a tune, Its like 2 different cars, even though they are only 8 serial numbers apart

It's all hocus pocus .................. and Mo's is the best at it!

It depends on the car's set up but typically we use datalogs recorded using an Xcal (we prefer the 4) and an wideband gauge which can be paired with the Xcal.

Then there is a lot of communication back and forth with the car owner as we review the data and revise the tune.

The process works well for someone who can't come to our shop.

For the person who started this thread they most likely do not need a remote tune because of the simplicity of his set up.
